Line cutters in virtually any situation = unacceptable in my book.

People that cut in line tend to be disrespectful in other situations as well. I usually confront them in a way that forces them to heavily reconsider their choice.

Even if I had a semi-ethical reason to cut in line, I would still feel like I had done something wrong.

I guess some people were brought up differently.

I have no inclination to be the guy speeding up all the way to the blinking arrow and then cutting someone off when I could have gotten over 500ft back.

My honor as a man is worth more than a place in line.

Cutting line was at epidemic proportions when I was over there. It flies in the face of their orderly stereotype, but they do not queue well.

Well since nobody said it was good form or a good thing so the argument fails. And on a further note, there are actually people in the world who do empirical research on topics like this. You are arguing for the position that "Its not what you know, but who you know." However, the data clearly show that there is a caveat. First you must know. Then networking and connections may kick in. So connections and who you know don't trump incompetence to do the job being hired for.

Manners are manners in any situation. The typical me first attitude has always been around, but seems to be rampart right now. The bottom line is if what you are doing could piss people off you probably should rethink what you are doing.

Exactly. It's not about having to wait 2 more minutes, it's about respect. If we all respected each other...

I hope I get stuck behind some of you in line the next time I'm at a crowded grocery store or waiting for an oil change! Love to just go right on up!

This is certainly true. Although I honestly don't see where that stereotype comes from because I'm not sure to which degree that has even been the case after the first German Reich collapsed.

@drtth please view the page before, I'm already saying thisthe second time: we're already past that point (or in other words: arguments and responses have been made).

    Maybe yes, maybe no.

"I am, however, skeptical to which degree this is the case."

What happens when the next "friend" shows up?

"Hey, Line Cutter #2! Back of the line!
If you want to cut the line, plan ahead,
get here early and be the first!"

Or is the "Chill" method based on a ratio - 1 cutter allowed every for 30 spots in line.

Am I not allowed to be skeptical? It doesn't imply I believe one premise to be more true than another. It simply means I won't maky any judgements on that until I have seen adequate proof - if you actually do know some solid empirical research, be free to shoot me some and I will make a judgement based on that. (so far I have only seen varying data on Germany and France and I'm less than confident to generalize these)

You should have cut in front of both of them and said, "I'll go to the back of the line if he does." Could be interesting.

Wow, a lot of BAs seem way too uptight about this.

OP, you might have rankled a few feathers, but it wouldn't bother me. You went there to meet a friend, you joined him in line. No big deal. I've done it at the movie theater and other places. You don't do it as a group of people, but as an individual it is fine.

On the topic of respect. I find it rather disrespectful to tell someone they can't go and meet up with their friend because you are impatient. It sounds childish to me. "No! I was here first!" instead of "No worries, I'm not going to force you to text your friend from 50 feet away because I can't wait 30 more seconds to get alcohol in my mouth."

Taking turns in pretty basic. That you can rationalize reasons why you shouldn't have to take turns doesnt really change the fact that you should be waiting your turn.

Hang with your friends after you make it through the line. Cutting sucks.

If the most important thing to the two friends is to wait in line with each other, why can't the friend already in line go to the back with the one who just turned up? Seems people want to have their cake.....

Regardless of the situation, if you have to ask "am I doing something wrong?" then you probably are.

I have only missed out on beer once because of line cutters, after waiting overnight they ran out 6 people in front of me after I saw easily 30 folks cut the line, but that one time permanently reinforced that it isn't cool to do.

Even if it only adds time to my wait, I fucking hate waiting in line, and if you make me do anything longer than I need to do, including waiting on line, out of some phony sense of entitlement to add to your laziness in not arriving sooner, I won't like it.
