That explains their recent ads slamming craft beer...

Edit: Sorry, let me add a little more to that.

My guess is that they'll continue to lose ground for a while, because more and more people are being made aware of the fact that yes, they too are the type of people who like craft beer.

One of my closest friends is from Puerto Rico and exclusively drank Heineken before coming to the states, and is about as un-snobby as you can get. They now go to bars and order a Lagunitas IPA. I think that's really telling, and I know a decent amount of people with similar stories.

A lot of younger drinkers are turning to craft. The future holds great things!.... but not for Budwesier.

As long as independent or otherwise craft breweries stay original and pure. Small, growing successful companies have a habit of becoming the "monsters" they despised prior in the marketplace...

My favorite part of the article from the chief financial officer at AB:

“We do not expect to stabilize Bud in the US in the short term,” Chief Financial Officer Felipe Dutra told reporters. “We have been repositioning the brand and making it more relevant for younger adults, but it’s not an easy task.”

That’s because you produce swill AB. You have in the past. You do so at the present time. And blimey if it doesn’t appear as if you'll likely to continue to do the same in the future. Unfortunately for you, there are now alternatives to drinking your macro swill, and it's become increasingly easy to find them. That sucks for you, doesn't it?

And what’s your solution? To see if you can find other, less well informed target audiences overseas, where there are fewer alternatives... whom you can once again convince are drinking nectar when they drink your swill. (“The brand is turning to overseas markets such as China and Brazil for growth, with foreign sales now accounting for 60 percent of all Bud consumed.”)

    Good marketing strategy AB.

This article is just about Budweiser, not AB InBev as a whole. We've all known Budweiser has been dropping in sales for a while.

Once you go craft, you never go back. As long as Bud makes inferior beer they will continue losing ground. Budweiser is fine for now but I think they're scared about the distant future. It will be interesting to see what the beer landscape looks like in 30-50 years.

I'm sure they will continue to buy more and more craft breweries to compensate.
