I have to agree. It was pretty jarringly strange at first, but I had one a few weeks ago and it was tasting a lot more palatable.

Jupiter ended up being better than Venus and Mercury but didn't have the wow factor that Mars did for me.

It was advertised as a malt forward brown ale, and I'm not sure what hype you are referring to other than the planet series in general.

Maybe he found it to be malt-backward?

Picked up one bottle today and that's pretty much how I'd describe it. I liked it, thought it was a slightly hoppier version of a standard brown ale. Didn't get a whole lot of malt from this. Still, it was good and went down surprisingly easy for being 8% ABV. I'll pick up a couple more over the weekend if I stumble across any, but won't be hunting it down or anything like that.

Shorts Woodmaster was better. Bottled 1/23/15 and hit my local shelf today.

So my ranking so far would be:

    1. Mars
    2. Jupiter
    3. Venus
    4. Mercury

Absolutely loved Mars, and I liked Venus more than most people on here, though I certainly didn't love it. I thought Jupiter was the best brown I've ever had. Didn't care for Mercury though.

I agree. I even had Venus tied w/Jupiter for small pours. I could have more than one Jupiter at a sitting but not Venus.

Jupiter was really disappointing. Perhaps its just my opinion of the style.

Exactly. Seeing as no one had it before it was released in bottles, not sure how it could be hyped. It is because it is a one time release from Bell's, and everyone needs as much as possible just in case.

Yeah, really it's Bell's fault that their beers are so hyped, thanks to their excellent reputation as a brewery paired with great marketing. Jerks.

Bell's should have released a statement saying that Jupiter might not be as good as expectations and people shouldn't rush out to buy it.
