Does anybody really LOVE sours?

    Not a favorite style of mine, but a nice change of pace every now and then. Monk's Café Flemish Sour is probably my favorite, but everyone says that's a beginners sour...

    Sours are part of my top five. As someone posted earlier, if they weren't so damn expensive, I would be drinking these like I drink IPAs.

    I love sours, and I also brew a lot of sours. It's weird, but in some ways I like them more because I can't drink much more than 2-3 glasses per week. They are one of the few 'styles' that I can actually keep in supply! Now if you are talking a funky Brett beer like Orval or Crooked Stave I really LOVE those and they go quickly.

    I actually do CRAVE them. But only a certain time of the year. Usually kicks in late Fall and sours are almost all I want to drink. Now, don't want to touch one. It's a brief window, but it always comes around.

    When sours are done right, they just amplify and accentuate all the nuances of the beer. Cantillon and 3f really stand out in this regard since they tend to be incredibly balanced and dry. If one just had a bunch of lacto bombs from upland or cascade, I could see them being more of a chore (I do like them, just can't do much of them).

    From time to time I really do indeed find myself craving a good sour. Over the last few months I feel that I've been craving saison/farmhouse ales, guezes, goses, and sour lambics more and more. I really think maybe after 10 years or so I've burned myself out a little bit on IPAs, stouts, porters, pilsners and lagers, and Belgian ales. I've drank far more of these 6 beer styles over the past 10 years than I have of the other 4 styles. Maybe my tastes are changing a bit. I don't think I could drink pint after pint of guezes or sour lambics night after night consistently, but one or two of those is really a well welcomed change of pace from time to time for me.

    I had a hand in introducing my buddy to craft beer. He immediately gravitated towards sours. I definitely didn't expect that but that's the way it went down. In my opinion, a top of the line sour offers more nuance and complexity than any beer out there. It's truly an experience when you find the right sour. De Garde's The Lucy was the last one that did it. Unbelievable.

    I don't love them. I do enjoy them. That said, i might have 3 a week, almost never more than one a day. It's just not something i can sit there and put back, even given the (usually) low ABV. They usually take me twice as long to finish as a non-sour beer. Maybe an equivalent amount of time as some of the thicker/stronger stouts.

    I love sours drink all the time. Try to change the cellar to all sour/lambics. Yes might be more money but damn I love the funk

    To spend the money that some of do on sours if one decides to use the word Love to describe their feelings for a beer then the answer is yes.

    Take an easily accessible sour like Suplication and drink it at about 15 degrees warmer than you would a coors light and drink it slow. It's to me as far as drinking goes, an amazing experience.

    Just bottled a framboise that has been in secondary aging for 2 years...and I have 13 more sours that are at various stages of age in the pipeline. That should answer the question :slight_smile:

    Yea I don't drink them often but when I do I tend to wake up in the middle of the night with some delightful heartburn and acid burps!
