So I know there'll be a contingent here who'll dismiss this out of hand, but in perusing the website for the new-ish Village Idiot Brewing in Mount Holly, NJ, I saw that one of their house beers is the "Thong Remover Tripel." Aside from being an awkward mouthful, the name struck me as just one in quite a few sexist and even rape-y beer names and labels from the more clueless/antisocial/whatever craft breweries out there over the last few years, largely newer ones. Be it the needlessly vulgar name of DuClaw's Bare Ass Blonde or the unfortunate and hilariously amateurish label for Prism's RedZone, not to mention the much talked about Clown Shoes Tramp Stamp, there seems to be, among some upstart craft brewers (and usually ones that aren't exactly doing anything exceedingly well, for the record - I definitely can see a correlation there), a problem with comprehending that women drink craft beer too. And while BMC does a lot of stuff wrong, particularly in some of their advertising, they don't call Bud Light Lime "Twat Grabber" or something,.. there's a level of decorum that's just common sense for most people.

What are some of the best examples you can think of when it comes to this corny (at best), ignorant and malicious (at worst) trend?

Oh, and I'm just gonna skip Village Idiot. No one who names their beers Thong Remover and Teddy Hopper is doing anything worthwhile when it comes to their actual product. Call it a hunch.

This is the Prism label I was referring too. Presumably made by someone's nephew who "knows how to use computers"

The beer behind the label was just as bad. I was at a pool hall where they sold it as "Stripper Ass" as a novelty just to get rid of it.

I dunno if you're being snark but this is a boring response, and the thread offers a perspective that certainly is worth considering. One if the things Ive observed is that, whether or not only non-white males drink craft beer, the majority of people that work in craft beer are white males. I would argue that the fact that mostly white males work in the industry means that there will inherently be garbage sexist (and potentially racist..) crap that comes out of the industry. I personally think it is grotesque, and Id happily take a less passive stance on the matter. With that in mind, I'd like to thank the OP for creating this thread. I will happily boycott the breweries with sexist brand names. I think as an industry we can move beyond naming things like "thong remover tripel.."

On the plus side, if it's called Thong Remover Tripel, and the brewer is referring to removing a woman's thong, then that implies that they think women drink it. Progress!

By the way, don't look up Belching Beaver Brewing.

Just trolling for a laugh  Although i never got sexist vibes from Clown Shoes Tramp Stamp, i think it's more poking fun at the trashiness of those tattoos, which aren't something men wear. Doesn't make it sexist to me, maybe to you. Unless now we're not allowed to make any jokes having to do with women, directly or indirectly.

From a designer/artist's view, Allagash has the sexiest labels.

Are you sure this thread wasn't meant to be called sexiest beer names/labels? Me-ow! :sunglasses:

So.. this thread got kinky quick.

Stupid puns aside, not sure what I'm supposed to think about that. I mean, if I would actually find out that the brewers are in fact sexist/racist/xenpohibic sh**heads invested in spreading that - I wouldn't buy their stuff. If we're talking about labels I'd say this is on a different level than doxing, catcalling, shaming someone for their sexuality and various other issues of systemic inequality. Can't say I've ever seen too much stuff like that with European breweries apart from Cantillon's Rose de Gambrinus (which, honestly - not my favorite label) and Camba's Love Beer (which looks more like a psyched out 60s cover).

I'd also go as far as saying that people designing those labels (and involved in the decision process) probably think you'll just get tons of people's attentions by having "unconventional" labels. Like 5.0 cans have this "cult following" because it's called "5.0" and has no ads.

Just to play devils advocate - can a guy not wear a thong? Or is there a female-specific label/tap handle?

Also in light of the topic I was expecting something a lot different from the red zone beer.

Finally - another Cantillon beer to throw in there - Fou Foune. But then nobody would talk smack about Cantillon....

Bringing back all those Haselhoff memories..

While I'm not sure what's on the label all I can make out is something that looks like part of a landscape on the moon and an aprociot in the sky.

That name has a specific meaning? I just thought it was the nickname of some French apricot grower.
