Good news, let me know if and when you require some taste tests...and ensure that it receives Canadian distribution.

It's about time! Been missing this gem since it first disappeared and was replaced with a sub par example of itself, which died some time ago.

The O'Hanlon version was one of the few barley wines available in a supermarket (Waitrose) here (the others are Fullers Vintage Ale and Golden Pride (Waitrose)). M&S have had two available: Woodforde's Norfolk Nip and Adnams Tally-Ho (Both 7%).

I've got a botttle of what's being called the Preview Edition. I assume that's a bottling of the test batch.

Per a rep "We are confident the beer (Thomas Hardy's Ale) will be ready for market before the end of 2015"!

The contract brewery called "Thomas Hardy Brewing & Packaging" (which was recently purchased by MolsonCoors) has no connection to the beer being discussed here, Thomas Hardy's Ale (the brand now owned by the Italian "Interbrau" group, UK contract-brewer still unknown at this point).

After the demise of the original brewer of THA, Eldridge, Pope & Co., as a brewing company, the beer brand was purchased by the owner of the US importer, George Saxon of Phoenix Imports, and was brewed at O'Hanlon's.

    Yeah, confusing....

Oh, damn - forgot about that. :grimacing: I even posted in the other Thomas Hardy's Ale @bitterbill started about Meantime brewing it.

OK, even with the new 30 minute limit on an "Edit", I'm too late, so...

SO where does this stand-----is it good considering the "preview" bottle, or is this some kind of hopeful nothing????

Wasn't the same brewery responsible also for Royal Oak????

    Very confusing.

Stingo is a great beer. except 2013 was a bad year, and is available in the States. Typically comes out around late August. Here in PA it's around $220 a case (case is 24 16oz bottles). I have bottles from each year back to 2009.

It's not uncommon that someone from the "area" not to hear of Sam Smith as:
"The brewery operates in the region of 200 pubs, most are small pubs situated in the former mill, mine and steel areas of the north of England. Many pubs in such neighbourhoods are closing but keep them open and well maintained serving the local community and offering value for money. The pubs only stock Samuel Smith’s products."
So the brewery owns the approximate 200 pubs that serve only Sam Smith beers. So the niece working in a pub, other than a Sam Smith pub, could never hear of the beer as she would've never served one!

Lastly, regarding Thomas Hardy's Ale, hang in there as Italy's Interbrau has brewed it for the first time since 2008 and is slated to distribute the beer in early 2016.[IMG]

Very cool---am very familiar with Sam Smith, in fact the little lady's extended family is just down the street from them.
Hope the Italians do a good job with said lovely elixir.

    Cheers!

When they say only Sam Smiths products, they really mean it. Not just beer, but all the wines, spirits and soft drinks are branded Sam Smiths. No Guinness, no proprietary whiskies.
