It was a pretty boring porter - call it whatever you want, but I lost interest in finishing it very quickly.

It also seems as if you decided long before you even tasted it that you would praise it.

So injecting a bit of rational thought and clarification as to who exactly is brewing this beer is an indicator of bias? Like I said before, I have nothing at stake with regard to whether or not people like this beer. If I thought it was terrible I would have said so.

But I fail to see any semblance of similarity between Lou's posts where he seems personally offended at the choice of the Ram and my own posts where I explain to people who don't know the history of the brewers involved and past selections of breweries of the series. If that makes me biased in your book, ok then.

I'll just say this. When I first heard it was brewed by Ram I was all like "what" and then some of you informed me that they actually have some good brewers on staff, so then I was all like "okay." I don't generally like porters, and particularly Baltic porters, but I'm willing to give any beer a shot. I also don't like gin and can't say I've ever had a gin barrel aged beer before. So those were several counts against this beer for me, going in.

And yet, when I drank this I found unexpected layers of complexity and nuance that I don't think I've ever found in any porter before, Baltic or otherwise. Is it the best beer I've ever had? No. Was it worth $12 (or whatever a glass cost @ BW) to try it? Absolutely.

FWIW, if anybody's heading north fora visit, I'll take two bottles, and buy ya a few beers here in town. The curiosity button has been pushed.

Don't know when I'm heading up next but I'd be happy to grab two for you and hold them (with your Naked City bottles) until I see you next.

Who cares? Obviously you (and me) since we're discussing it in this thread. If you didn't care you wouldn't be here responding.

And I know you didn't like it. You've been making that clear since the first page. Y'know, before you tried it.

Coolio! I'm coming down for the M's opener, but I don't know when I'll be down other than that.

I'll be at the Farmhouse Fest at Saraveza at the end of March. I can bring you a bottle if you'll be in Portland then.

Cool. If that's the weekend of the 27th, then I'll make it a point to be up in Portland that Saturday. I'm thinking now that I'll make it a point to go to the Saraveza event as well.

I'm not surprised people didn't like it - strong licorice note, some herbal notes - but I am surprised to hear it called boring.
