Yea, and the Prussians are so complimentary of the Bavarians...

Depends. Prussia was large. Although I doubt the people from "originally" Prussian areas (i.e. nowadays Poland) really have much of an issue with Bavarians.

But hey, all the more reason for those not involved to sit back with popcorn.. errr I mean Weisswurst and a good beer.

My in-laws are all Prussian, so I was going off of their attitudes in any ways. All in good fun for me, an outsider/Ami to the whole thing. Funny thing is, I frequently have to translate for them when we go to Bamberg together. Never heard of things like Schaeufela, Ungespundetes, and Zwetschgebames up there apparently.

Uhh, from which area (or which Bundesland currently in existence?)

It's even in good fun to a lot of people that are outsiders to that kind of regional culture, I also don't get the whole shpiel about carnival in NRW. I honestly don't know what most of these mean, either. I think "Zwetschge" means something like prune or something but I'm not sure.

It's the place where they waste my taxes year after year... The day Bavaria finally regains her independence I will tranfer my "hate" to Munich. Oh wait, I already "hate" them as well... :grinning:

    Agreed, Munich is equally overrated.

I would say more overrated with the added bonus of being much more expensive.

I am quite a fan of Berlin and the fact that some people actually know how to roast and make coffee instead of burning it to hell twice so that it tastes like burnt rubber.

I think it's actually one of the most expensive cities hierzulande. Also one of the factors that makes me dislike Oktoberfest in (in addition to the amount of people/noise/dirt/vomit).

I can't really comment on either one's coffee quality since I barely ever get coffee from a café. Granted, my experiences with Berlin were not great but limited. I do like to poke fun at the meaning of the word Berlin.
But hey, at least it's not Paris or London!

Same reason, living in Bonn, I am a Karnevalsflüchtlinge... but this year we escaped to London, which is decideldy brilliant when it comes to beer, culture and great coffee!
I also have a soft spot in my heart for Paris, but I used to live there:slight_smile:

If they just weren't so expensive - I think London is one of the most expensive cities in the world. I honestly also found Parisians particularly to be quite an odd bunch.

London is insanely expensive, the only thing that was fairly priced was beer and coffee lol

Parisians, well, they have a notorious reputation even amongst the French. Though I can understand their exasperation when legions of tourists come and expect them to speak English and get louder and ruder when they do not understand.

    Exactly my point.

I can understand that. But I don't think that entirely explains this tendency for snotty behavior. We've had people act inadequately and make borderline xenophobic jokes apparently solely on the basis that we did not speak French like we were from France.

I have never experienced that, but I also speak French. However, as we have seen recently, the Germans are far from innocent of xenophopic attitudes. If you are white and from Western Europe, Canada, the US, Australia etc you are cool, if not, well...

I do not know why we cannot all just drink some nice beers and get along:slight_smile:

Depending on the demographics Germans are certainly not as progressive as we like to think. I've certainly seen my fair share of what I like to call "superficial idiocy".

Couldn't agree more. I'm actually almost certain there's even a style for most people (once all the biases are dropped).

I'm trying to figure out who exactly is separating from whom. The Independent Country of Regensburg and Environs?

I don't agree with your view but I do at least see where you're coming from. I wish I had gotten to Regensburg in my time, I would have loved to have a beer with you. Although after the first Maß, I'd have probably started poking you about how awesome Berlin and Munich are and the night would probably have not ended well for me.

Perhaps I've been lucky (or clueless) but I've always been treated well in Paris and France in general (a French friend once apologized to us for not getting our "mean Parisian" story). Then again I also enjoy Munich and Berlin, Köln and Düsseldorf...maybe I just wasn't trying hard enough...

Or you're super charismatic and pacify everyone around you.

Although I honestly don't have any issues with French people in general and still don't understand some of the apparently still lingering animosity towards them. Some of my family members live in France, parts of my family come from nowadays French regions. Can't really comment much on the populace of some of these German cities tbh. Most of my issues with Berlin and Munich are unrelated to its inhabitants. More with costs, infrastructure, aesthetics and stuff like that. But it's not like these are set in stone, I would definitely give them a few more shots before writing them off completely.
