I use to be out in the harrisburg area a lot, now I rarely get out there when I have some free to chill out in Gettysburg. Right now my wife is in love with Fredricksburg, VA, so most likely our spring retreat will be down that way, but I do have an itch to get out for some R&R in Gettysburg.

@Clarkson - you're our resident Texan, right? I'm planning a bachelor party in Austin for a buddy of mine and would like to get a BM going with someone familiar with the area for ideas on where to stay and what to do.

Also, a stop will be made a Jester King, so I need to know what I should pick up there. (this question is open to anyone in this group that has recommendations) We will be going memorial day weekend. I don't care about limited releases or whalez; I've never had anything from Jester King so it will all be "rare" to me.

Hey, I just booked a trip to Austin for early May. Probably won't be as fun as a bachelor party or honeymoon...travelling with a 22-month old and a pregnant wife.

 

I'm in for a bottle, but if Nick is in with you just include mine in your box to him, or hold onto it for the bottle share.

Looks like I'm not the only one looking for Austin, TX advice. If @Clarkson (or anyone else) confirms they can help, I'll create a group BM so we don't bog down this thread.

 

Well, myself and @EA728 , @cultclassic89 , @ajaylock and @rspauldi ..... I'm Dallas and those yahoos are down in Houston, but have all spent our fair share of time I'm Austin I'm sure.

JK posts a lists on their website every week with what is available for onsite consumption and what bottles are available to go. Follow along with that a few weeks beforehand and you'll have a good idea of what will be available. Check out the SW forum too for JK release news. I actually think there is a thread going on in there right now about "what else to do in Austin besides JK. "

General things for a bachelor party IMHO- stay close to 6th Street, eat the best BBQ on the planet (Salt Lick and Franklin and Mueller's), and visit some of the other awesome Austin Breweries - Hops & Grain, 512, Live Oak to name a few. Most of our breweries do not have taprooms though, but rather "tours" on Saturdays.

I'd be more than happy to join a BM for anything specific.

@MCMASTERSANCHEZ - since it's your honeymoon, do the opposite of what I just said. Take her down to Fredericksburg for the day and roll your eyes as she gets giddy by shopping on Main street, take her to a winery or two, then you can do what you want the next day. I'm afraid that's how it's going to work for you from now on.

 

Clarkson is more Dallas area, but we have a bunch of Texans in here including @EA728, @cultclassic89 (is he dead?), @rspauldi, and I'm sure I'm forgetting a couple more; we're very well represented from that state.

From Jester King I definitely recommend Das Wunderkind, and RU-55 is pretty damn tasty too, though this is not at all a denouncement of anything else they make.

Anything they have in 500mL bottles (the walezbro) get as many as you are possibly able to purchase, worst case scenario you'll have people jumping all over you to take them off your hands for what you paid+, but if you like fruited sours you might not want to let any go.
