Hey guys - I am doing a three day trip to Savannah and will be spending 1 day in Charleston. Unfortunately the day in Charleston is Sunday so Westbrook will be closed and it looks like another popular place "Closed for Business" is closed on Sunday...

thinking about going to a couple of these places:
    - craft conundrum
    - edumnds oast
    - smoky oak
    - craftsmen taphouse
    - mellow mushroom

Any I am missing or any on that list that are above the rest? I am most concerned about trying beers from the region i cannot get in Seattle...

Any other beer bars or breweries around Charleston or between Charleston and Savannah I should be looking to visit on Sunday when driving to/from?

It looks like the beer scene in Savannah is a little smaller so any advice you have on where to go there would be greatly appreciated!

Thank you in advance! Cannot wait to visit!

CFB isn't closed on Sundays. Unless they've changed their hours.

The Distillery and Moon River in Savannah. There's also a World of Beer, which won't have the best atmosphere, but should have plenty of south eastern beers.

Savannah breweries other than Moon River are only open on Saturdays for 2 hours. I recommend Southbound over Service.

Go to Edmund's Oast in Charleston on Sunday for brunch (make a reservation). Killer 45 tap list, their house beers are AWESOME, and the place is a semi finalist for a James Beard award. Not to mention the place is gorgeous. I'd also recommend Revelry brewing after Edmund's as they make tasty beers and are about 5 blocks away.

Oast. I don't eat at CFB all that often, besides completely different... crap can't find the word...

    "Idiom, sir?"

    Yes, idioms of food.

That said, if softshells are in season (you didn't specify a time frame), CFB doesn't do a bad sandwich.

I was in Charleston 5 days last week and ate at Edmunds Oast 4 times, the food is incredible and their house made beers alone are worth the trip. Make a reservation or plan to show up right at 4:30 to grab a seat at the bar (full menu is available starting at 5:30).

Only one stop in Charleston? I'd go with Edmund's Oast too. We're living here for the winter and CFB is closest walk to the marina so has become our regular place. Always a good beer list, nice bar to hang out and good bar food. But, Edmund's Oast is on a different level. New outdoor seating. The pickled shrimp is a must. We also really like Craftsman Kitchen and Tap House too. Nice bars, patio, not your average bar food. Not quite EO but still excellent.

I can't speak to Oast, but will throw in my 2 cents for Craftsmen (which I see you're already considering) http://craftsmentaphouse.com/

Wife and I took a trip there last May, stopped in there our first night and one of their $10 flight specials included KBS (pouring pints too but it wasn't on the menu and we just stumbled on it). Pretty great selection on tap overall, knowledgeable staff. We had nothing but great food and drink everywhere else we ate too, but now I'm wishing we'd gone to Edmund's Oast. I think Craftsmen could be a good stop after Oast.

Depending on how late in the day you can stay, not beer related but I can't say enough good things about Gin Joint if you dig craft cocktails.

Loving all this info. I'm flying into town (Charleston) today through Monday. Hitting Husk for dinner tomorrow, Edmond's Oast Friday (dinner), and going to try to get into FIG's bar tonight when I arrive. The more research I do the more I realize you can't go wrong in Charleston...hoping to score some good bottles I can't get in CO too. Charleston Beer Exchange sounds pretty amazing.

No one has mentioned "craft conundrum"...i read somewhere they have 170 beers on tap so i figured it would for sure get suggested? not as good as the others i guess?

Nothing wrong with it, just that's it's not downtown and no food. It's where 17 hits 526, so if you're not driving, give it a whirl.

    Nice folks.

For Savannah: Here at Moon River, we have 11 house beers on and 12 guest beers. Some notables include a dry-hopped Saison Brett, a calamondin ginger rye Saison, Abbey Dubbel, English Strong Ale, and tomorrow we tap our Russian Imperial Stout. Depending on when you here, my co-brewer or I could probably show you around. Shoot me a PM.

The Distillery and Crystal Beer Parlor have stellar draft and bottle lists and good food. WOB has good beer but no food. The Bier Haus has a good Belgian-centric selection. Our laws prevent production breweries to sell directly to the public. Check their Facebook pages for hours. A new, solid bottle shop is called Hops n Barley, and the Beer Growler is the spot for draft beer to go.

Charleston: I was there Monday, and have visited most spots listed. I liked Edmunds Oast, Bay St. Beergarden, Closed for Business, and the Craftsmen. Kudu is a coffee shop with great beer. I had a Foothills Sexy Choc followed by a Coast Blackbeer'd. If you make a reservation, Husk is a can't miss for Southern food.

Prices were high and atmosphere was lacking at Craft Conundrum.

Skip CC and Biergarten for sure IMO. I'm still saying EO, Revelry and HoB for beer. Fig is well worth it, and although Craftsman wouldnt be my first choice, is might still be worth checking out for you.

Haven't been down to Savannah in a few years but I remember being quite impressed with Moonriver, I'd definitely check them out

Just back from Charleston, and would definitely recommend hitting Closed for Business and Edmund's Oast - those were definitely the highlight of the trip from the beer perspective. The general vibe at Closed for Business is as good as the rotating selection. Met lots of great locals there and it ended up being one of the best Saturday's I've had in recent memory. Now I need to plan a trip back...

What about any great bottle shops on the 95 between Charleston and Savannah and around those cites as well?
