Are there any beers readily available in Chicago that are in demand around the country?

That's kind of a loaded question. Anything Three Floyds tends to be in demand, anything Pipeworks is usually in demand (especially their latest BA releases, and their one-off DIPAs) Revolution has a barrel-aged series (Deep Wood Series) that you can probably trade decently for. It's tough to really answer this, since I assume your reason for asking is to use this stuff as trade bait, and it's really going to depend who you're trading with/what you're trading for. I would imagine Surly beers are probably pretty sought after, as well.

Thanks for replying! Yes, I am looking for trade bait, so I should have said Chicago area beers not found widely around the country.

Sounds like you should drink and learn about your great local market beers first before trying to trade.

You're putting the horse before the cart.

There are several Chicago local, not widely distributed, beers that people want elsewhere.
There are also a number of solid Chicago area brewers that aren't well known elsewhere (to toss in as extras in trades).

You might want to get a base of ratings/reviews to help give potential trade partners an idea of what sorts of beers you'd be most into to help spur the trade talks.

If you don't even know what's available in your own backyard, you have no business trading.

That's what I said, only nicer.

Chicago people need to realize how great their market is. Other cities would kill to have our distro alone, let alone our local gems.

No need for totally green noobs to trade. Drink what's here and enjoy, then once you get a feel for it and know what your doing, then start to explore other markets.

As someone who jumped into trading real quick, I disagree with what people are saying that you need to basically prove yourself. It's beer man, have fun. If you want to try Pliny and Russian River then get some Zombie Dust or Abrasive and trade for it. I hear what people are saying about the Chicago market, it's unbelievable, but at the same time you want what you can't have. Why not take advantage your beer market and another states beer market at the same time?

I've heard about one beer maker that's supposed to be really popular – Grouse Island I think. They apparently have a "Bourbon Country" dark beer that's released right after Xmas every year at Walgreens. If I lived in Chicago, I'd get some of that.

Seriously, anything BCBS-related will have some trade value, and there's a lot of it every year in your area.

The question I have is there anything around the country which is worth trading for with readily available Chicago beers? No, no there's not. OP, enjoy the bounty of beers we have in this great city and leave the trading to those other loser markets.
