I'll take a saison over a bock, personally. Saisons are also one of my very favorite styles and probably the one style of beer I drink most consistently.

That said, I do enjoy a well constructed bock quite a good deal.

I have come to love them both, but have to admit that Saisons narrowly edge out Bocks on my Spring list.

Saisons for sure, especially if Shaun Hill is brewing said saison..

I like bocks, but I love a good saison. So I'd take a good saison over a good bock.

But if I have to choose, I'd take a poor bock over a poor saison.

I'm definitely a saison guy, one of my favorite styles, enjoyable year-round for me, but especially in the summer.

I agree with this all, especially the latter; Bocks remind me of Root Beer, because it's hard to make a really shitty Root Beer.

Doppelbocks have always seen a lot of love, Maibocks are starting to gain a bit of traction, but for me I'd love to see more well-made Traditional Bocks in the 6.5% abv range and built to drink a number of them at one sitting.

Aass Bock was the first beer to blow me away, and I still have a great amount of affection for the style (when done right ). For that reason more than any other I'll have to go with Bocks over Saisons, although a nice dry saison will also tickle my toes any day of the week.

Love both styles for completely different reasons. I've become a big lager fan over the past year or so. Really looking forward to Tröegs Cultivator and Ommegang Glimmerglass this spring!

This is sort of true. While I do enjoy a good IPA and hoppy beer there is nothing like a well executed Bock or better yet a double Bock. How can anyone prefer mouth shrinking hops over a big fat malty sweetness and that wonderful chewiness that you get with a good double bock?

As for saisons versus Bocks? No brainer for me, I'll take the bock everytime.

I enjoy both, but for Spring I like Bocks. Cultivator hits the spot, but I still miss Victory St. Victorious, damnit!
Edit. And St. Boisterous, for that matter!

FWIW, St. Victorious is on tap at the Victory Brewpub.

    Cheers!

There's a blast from the past that needs serious revival. Talk about those days between macro beer and micros when we discovered some of the better imports. Didn't Merchant duVin import Aass? And I wonder why they stopped?

While I completely agree, it's amusing how the crowd in between the Bud Light drinkers and the Beeradvocate consumers seem to dig lagers.

Beers like Yuengling Lager, Boston Lager, Kona Longboard Lager and Shiner Bock are among the top selling craft beers in the country.

You could toss Brooklyn Lager and the growth of Jack's Abby in there for good measure.

As for me, I'd love to drink more bocks if there some available to me. I love Troeg's Cultivator, and for a more traditional spring bock, Hofbrau's Maibock is a great drinker, the definition of "liquid bread" to me. I don't think it's necessarily that Beeradvocate's hate lagers (Hoponius Union is insanely popular in Boston) its that they don't enjoy that "liquid bread" characteristic a traditional bock highlights.

Personally, I love both Saisons and bocks. Much like the Autumn seasonals of Oktoberfest beers and pumpkin beers, I drink several bottles of both Saisons and bocks when released and available.
