Have other people been seeing packages that normally would have been delivered to a residential address on Saturday not being delivered until the next week? It used to be pretty reliable that you could drop off a cross-country box on Monday and have it delivered on Saturday, but I've had a couple boxes in the last month which got to the local depot by Friday night, and then on Saturday they said "On FedEx vehicle for delivery. Scheduled for delivery next business day" and didn't show up until Monday.

It's been similar for me as of late. UPS has been consistently faster than Fedex for cross country stuff for me over the past few months. Could be my proximity to a UPS hub though.

This happened to me today as well. Not sure what's going on. Could it be the winter storms going on in the midwest (between the west coast and here)?

But... the box is on a truck, 5 miles from me. In Portland, where's it's 65F and sunny.

Sorry, I wasn't thinking straight when I wrote that. What happened with my box was that it was supposed to be delivered Friday, but then it was delayed due to the winter weather going on in Kentucky, Illinois, etc. and now it should have been delivered on Saturday, but it's sitting on a truck in Madison now doing nothing- and that's what seems to have happened to your box. So that latter part, I don't know what to think.

Maybe they've curtailed the Saturday home delivery because they're backed up with the winter weather? Not sure.

Check out their service alert page. It's likely due to weather issues.

    FedEx Express National Service Disruption
    Last Update: March 7, 2015

Winter weather conditions impacted the Memphis hub last night, resulting in inbound and outbound flight delays. Potential delays are possible for package deliveries across the U.S. with a delivery commitment of March 7, 2015. FedEx is committed to provide service to the best of our ability. Please continue to check fedex.com for updates.

So it fits as both of the boxes that were delayed presumably went through that area of the country, but it doesn't explain why I have two boxes sitting on a truck either in Madison or nearby in Wisconsin and not being delivered today as I would expect. I'm guessing it's just the system working with an automated algorithm to handle the disruptions from the winter weather.

Weird timing. I had two boxes coming from the west coast scheduled for delivery today, both came from the same sender. As of this morning both showed on the truck for.delivery.

About 1 o'clock I get a text showing 1 box delivered. 20 minutes later I get another text with a delivery exception showing the other box couldn't be delivered because no one was home. Didn't say signature required and 5hat not the way it was sent, said no.one was home.

Called fedex and said WTF? The guy is a my house, both boxes came from the same sender, blah blah.

Put.me on hold, come back and say "were sorry, the driver is being sent back to.drop off the other box."

Had no explanation for.me, just they'll send the guy back

If the person sending selects "ground delivery" instead of "home delivery" or does not check the box that says "this is a residential address" then FedEx wont deliver that package on saturday and will get delivered "next business day" even if its on the truck for delivery...simple as that...

If the box showed on Monday then the home delivery option wasn't selected. Home delivery delivers on Saturday, but.not.on Monday. If home delivery was selected and you didn't get if Saturday, you wouldn't have gotten the box until Tuesday

That's Express (air) not Ground. None of my boxes in question have been anywhere near Memphis.

The alert listed under that one lists a more generic alert. Essentially it's weather related.

    That's totally bizarro...

If you print labels online, you don't even get a choice of "Home Delivery" vs "Ground". I mean, Fedex knows full well what's residential and what's not, and even if you fill out a label in writing at a store, it still gets entered into the computer and bar-coded by the workers.

Also, I've seen this happen on Home Delivery packages that I sent out as well.

Hate to disagree brother but you do get an option, I fill labels out on line all the time.

You're asked if it's a residential address. If you check that box ten you get home delivery. If you don't. You don't.

What makes you think you're sending out home delivery packages?if it happens on the packages you send as well, and they aren't being delivered Saturday it's because you aren't checking the right box.

What is it that makes you think the box you sent is home delivery?

I always click the link to verify the address, which also determines residential status. And, every time, when I select the service I want below that, it only has Home Delivery on the list.

And, I stand my my assertion this is bizarre on the part of Fedex. No matter whether you had them do address verification or not, or whether you check residential, or if what you selected on a drop-down, they know where they are going to deliver to and which service covers that address. These guys optimize the crap out of their operations. For them to be somehow confused about what truck they are going to put something on in the end makes no sense.

Then in some cases the verify address function must essentially check the "this is a residence" box for you. In the future, go ahead just click that little box yourself, and this won't be an issue for you.

It might cost an extra buck or so for them to use the Tue-Sat team instead of the Mon-Fri team, but if it avoids sitting over a weekend it's worth it to me.

It's not entirely about to what location they're going, it's also about what service you're hiring. Home delivery doesn't just mean "residential address", it is a different service than Ground.

Normally this is the case, but with the delay issues there seem to be some weird things going on.

I sent a box on Monday, going to Portland, that arrived in OR on Friday. I chose Home Delivery (i take pics of labels, so I double checked, and it has the big H on it) so it should have delivered on Saturday. But it didn't, and now says scheduled for delivery on Monday (which also shouldnt be the case, as its home delivery). No idea whats going on or why things are screwy. None of my boxes go through Memphis - they go through the Ft Worth hub - but still everything I sent this week was delayed, despite all going west.

Seems like every winter, things get screwy, even if you're sending from and to areas that dont have winter weather.

DFW had miserable winter weather this past week. It backed up operations significantly. Although unrelated, I had a UPS box that was supposed to be delivered Thursday but won't be delivered until Monday because of the log-jam.

Respectfully, I don't believe DFW has the slightest clue as to what miserable winter weather is, ha
