And there's always the possibility that gets back to the brewery, they don't like it and it's the first and last time a raffle for a growler of pty is allowed.

Fulfilling may have no been the best word, but removes a lot of flexibility in trading. I am not necessarily for or against the possibility of a very specific trade request rule. No real easy answer to this problem.

Maybe I'm oversimplifying it, but is this even all that important?

Set your own compass: trade how you want to trade, when you want to trade, and with who you want to trade. Don't like the way another BA operates? Just move on. Or maybe focus on your trade partners or even stop trading. Life will continue and we will all be okay.

Sit down, enjoy a beer, and stop spending so much time concerned about the actions of others that you're unable to control anyways.

What I'm most concerned is how the mods address this I suppose. I'm mostly just talking about how easy it is to get around the current rule.

I'm glad another Wisconsin BA feels the same way I do.

Everything is relative as far as importance, but the actions of others impact this community and the craft beer community in general. There are ways we can control it and nothing wrong with trying to do it.

You are right. The obvious "auctions" are one thing, but any more rules on how we need to post FT/ISO threads is going to make trading not fun and make it more of a headache than it should be. That's why we have moderators, who try and determine which are and which aren't. They aren't perfect and try their best, so they aren't going to please everyone with their decisions. Its a site to trade beers and have fun, not have 1,000 rules on how to do it. And I'm not picking on you personally @jrnyc , but either people can report it, or just move on.

It's definitely a problem, but I don't think more rules can fix things without also having a significant negative impact. This is one of those messy people+logistics problems that will never have an absolute solution.

My personal views fall into the let others do what they will category, but I do understand that the admins have a set of rules and standards and it's important to respect them. If someone can't abide by that, there are plenty of trading groups on facebook or they can go create an account on one of the aftermarket selling sites.

My specific question would be how to avoid some of these situations as a poster. For example, I've thought about posting all the semi rare beers I'd considered trading and trying to land some combination of more rare beers. The problem is, those beers appear to trade for all kinds of different "exchange rates". I'd like to post my whole list of "gots" and a list of my wants, knowing that someone might want the entire list for a KBBS, or maybe they'd take part of the list for a DBH, or maybe just one thing off the list for a MBCP.

When you're dealing with beers that aren't viewed through the $4$ lens how do you avoid pissing people off, or violating the spirit of the rules? I wouldn't be looking to create an auction, with people bidding against people, but is there something wrong with picking the trade or trades that I felt the best about?

Do your homework, searching through the ISO:FT forum to see what the beer you're ISO is going for. That way you'll be able to post a specific ISO:FT and avoid an auction, and you're much more likely to end up with a successful trade and get what you want. Win-win.

That's fine, except you never hear how a lot of the trades finish, you only see the first post. Additionally, just for the sake of discussion, let's say I'd be equally happy with 5 of my beers for a KBBS, or 3 for a DBH. I post all 5 just in case, knowing I might not get offered a KBBS and being willing to settle.

Maybe someone can guide me or the mods can. Want to make sure if I post this again I execute this correctly. My post was deleted for being an auction.

I posted Ft: 2x Geriatric hipster club ISO: your locals

My intention was to just go $4$ for the two beers for their locals. Wanted to try something new that I wouldn't be aware of.

Personally, I rarely, if ever, post an ISO. I typically respond to posts that offer something I want in exchange for something I have. Most of my trades expand to locals or other things as well. So, I don't mind lists, as they give me an idea if the person is looking for something I have or can get.

I also don't take trading as personal as some folks seem to. If I get in a negotiation with a trade-winner, I typically just bow out. Trade winning is not "against the rules" as far as I can tell, but I can simply choose to walk away from the negotiation to avoid it. If something crosses the line, then it gets reported or posted about. I generally try to trade with people who seem like-minded and who may end up as a reg trading partner. It is less about acquiring a specific beer for me than it is about acquiring access to other beers that I don't have. I think we'd all have a little bit more fun if we each did our best to follow the rules, but not get so worked up if and when a rule is "bent."

The first post still gives you a baseline as to what people are asking/offering, and you can message the poster to ask whether it got done and for what.

So why not put up a list and say "Pick 5 for KBBS or pick 3 for DBH"? Or if not all the beers you're offering are roughly equal, you could split them into two lists and say something like "Pick 2 from list A and 3 from list B for KBBS, or 1 from list A and two from list B for DBH".

I am in a similar boat. My parents picked up 2 cases of Pliny from Russian River. I am interested in trading a few bottles but really don't have a specific want. I just wanted to post some in search ofs but at the end of the day, I am just interested in trying new beer. Not looking for whales but per the guidelines attached it would appear I would need to be much more specific.
