I've got a buddy heading to Bend for a few days, and he's gonna spend an afternoon/night in PDX on the way back. Anything special on tap or in bottles he should look for right now?

I am visiting Portland April 9-12th and had a couple of questions.

    - I see that the new Logsdon taproom is opening in May but can you visit before then, or no?
    - Do most of the taprooms suggested in this thread have sours on tap?
    - I was planning on going to de Garde on Friday. Should I wait until Saturday?
    - Any beer related events scheduled while I will be in town? Ive looked around but havent seen anything.
    - I know this forum is about beer, but anyone have suggestions for which wineries to go to?

I do not believe the new Logsdon taproom will be open when you are coming, but I would recommend a trip out to Hood River Regardless to drink Pfriem, Double Mountain, Solera, Big Horse, and every other Gorge brewery. You can always stop by the taproom to see if they are in there.

    - Do most of the taprooms suggested in this thread have sours on tap?
I would say that there is not hard a fast rule and all of these taprooms have had Sours on tap before. Pro-tip: go to each of the taprooms website for an updated taplist when you get here

    - I was planning on going to de Garde on Friday. Should I wait until Saturday?
Friday is a great day to go too! No reason not to go then.

    - Any beer related events scheduled while I will be in town? Ive looked around but havent seen anything.
There most definitely will be as there is a beer event (or 6) every weekend. You are coming right before the CBC, which is a bummer because there will be ridiculous events during that span. Check Newschoolbeer.com and brewpublic.com for event updates when you get closer.

I don't think it would appropriate for me to provide a response that just dicusses wine, so I'll send you beermail copy of the email I keep saved for friends coming to the wine country from back East. Had to update it a bit to include current vintages (when I drafted it originally, the 08's were just coming on line).

How common is it to find bottles of De Garde and The Ale Apothecary around town? I see there's a few of the former listed currently on the Belmont Station list, but I won't be in town for a few weeks. Would love any ideas on the best places to find either brand, where people have had luck in the past, etc. Thanks!

Next week, I will be in the downtown area and in addition to stopping at as many breweries and brewpubs as possible would love any advice for places to find on draft/bottles of DeGarde, AA, Boneyard, etc.... Thanks in advance!

Thanks guajolote. This is a great resource. So much info in one place. I especially like the links to the maps (especially digita7693's map). I'll be coming to Portland and almost posted the "I am staying at..." and what is near by me question. Can't wait, 18 days to go.

How hard is it to find Ale Apothecary and Crux bottles for sale around Portland?

Crux is easy to find. AA depends on when the last shipment was.

As for de Garde, you'll probably find Bu Weisse and Petit Desay bottles in Portland. For everything else you'll have to go to the brewery.

How are they? I've only had one beer from them so far. It was a peach sour that was less than stellar and kind of had a parmesan cheese thing going on with the nose. I'd like to give them another go, but don't see them down here in Bend at all.

Well Solera would be more for the view than the beer - but they make interesting stuff none-the-less. I totally know what beer you are talking about and i agree - that thing had some cheeze funk to it!

The view from solera's back patio

Matt, try a Seizoen Bretta 375ml from WF. They have others from them, but if you want to dip your toe in...

I think he was talking about Solera, but I could have been mistaken.

You may be right, I saw peach sour and assumed he was talking about Peche n Brett, but I might be off base. No Solera option nearer than their taproom.

This is just the ticket - heading out there soon, was gonna ask the question, and found this thread.

Maybe not a nice question, but are there places you would avoid or call overrated?

I want each beer to count dammit :grinning:

Solera has one of the most amazing views, I take everyone there. They also happen to make some pretty good beers. It is a pity that Logsdon is no longer open for visitors as the Hood River, Logsdon, Solera trifecta was always a blast.
