has anyone else had problems with these new 1L canteen growlers leaking? I'm not even talking during shipping, but just in their drive home? I know it's happened to me so far a couple of times, and also to a few friends. These beers are expensive to fill and it's been a waste of money so far. Has anyone else had this experience?

I feel like I'm going to have to use my 2L glass growler from now on, but that means I'll miss out on my Hoarders exclusive fills which will suck, but at least I won't lose all of my beer.

Read the allocations thread for further advice, but make sure the cap is securely closed... Like really tighten it down. If it still leaks The Bruery is replacing lids.

Who other than the Bruery employees should know better how tight it needs to be? I had two of the growlers filled 4 or 5 times in total (4 at the Bruery, one time somewhere else) and it leaked badly every single time.
I like the idea of small growlers but I don't want to carry them with the care of an open container on my way back home. I will give it a try and replace both lids on them, but I have a feeling that those growlers are not designed to be used with beer. For some reason it never leaked if I used it with water...

its because of the carbonation and because the top is like hollow. you have to make the top really really really tight. I know people in the allocation thread were mentioning getting a different top and it worked like a charm.

they replaced my hydro flask but i think its just that hydro flasks werent designed for beer when they first came out, they have just been re purposed.

My frind had mole smoking wood and it was 1/2 empty after his 2 hour drive home. But we will see. Ill try a new top. But in the end...its just a bad idea. Great looking merch that I was very excited for, but not sure if Ill risk it again.

I've seen these exact same hydro flasks on sale at my yoga studio for 20 bucks. Only thing different being the inscription on the side. They are used to keep water cold and the contents protected from light or extreme temperatures.

$20 is a pretty good deal considering they are $34 new from hydroflask.

wont let me edit this as 15 mins has passed, but i take back what i said about it not being designed for beer. the website says it can be used for beer, and they also have the 64 oz "beer growler"

Well, then I guess they should go back to the drawing board...

I have never had mine leak beer. It leaked water once when lying on it's side and not fully tightened down but that is it.

I was one of the people who used alternative tops via Amazon or Hydro Flask directly and had vastly improved results. No leaks from carbed or flat fills at Bruery using the other tops. Or filling myself for road sodas.

Filled this weekend at SARA, regular cap worked like a charm with no leakage.

For everyone with leaking problems, does it leak when standing up too? Or is everyone with leakage problems lay it down in the back seat or trunk on their way home from the brewery? Mine hasn't leaked, yet.

My growler leaked when filled with Mole Smoking Wood . I called them and they said to bring it back and they'll replace the beer and the lid if necessary. When I got there they took a look at the serial # on the bottom and said that certain growlers were defective so they replace the entire growler. I was told that some growlers only needed the lid replaced.
For those of you who have not filled your growler yet, ask them to look at the serial # and tell them to replace it if it's one of the defective ones.... it'll save you a trip back there which is a hassle sometimes. I wish they would be more upfront as to which ones are defective instead of us finding out for ourselves the hard way. :slight_frown:

I am going this weekend and have a few of these growlers for myself and people i trustee for
after reading this I am very cautious to fill
it is frustrate that after all the infection problems over the last years they issue a gift that has problems and did not even offer a free fill to members
and they know in CA that you can't fill a logo growler in other spots
I hope the ones I have do not leak but will probabaly just fill one and see how it goes
    thanks for the reviews
    cheers M
