I bought a few and I would agree when they are fresh. I find they become way more drinkable and less sweet to me with some age on them. I like them the previous year better than the current year which is the opposite of stouts that are heavy on the coffee. I love those fresh.

I was thinking of the Black Chocolate Stout, too :grimacing:, but I went with the Yeti because I felt like Brooklyn's BCS has a lot of coffee and anise, too - but it is certainly in the mix - an epic and chocolaty stout - perhaps even richer than the Yeti... :sunglasses:

Boy, y'all really have me thinking - I gotta say, I'm not a fan of Choklat - to my tastes, it falls into that "cloying" category - too sugary sweet - but among stouts that are not actively advertised as "chocolate," Founders Imperial Stout has a smashingly good profile, with tons of chocolate flavors...

Not the best example, depending on your standards- but Shiner Birthday beer tastes just like chocolate cake.

I've had the Espresso Oak Aged Yeti, and it's one of my favorite coffee stouts. I can only imagine how good the chocolate one must be. Good suggestion.

Just tried a Gigantic Saboteur Baltic porter - nice and chocolatey overall. Subdued sweetness and only a minor hint of coffee to it...it's worth a stab (brewery web site indicates it's distributed in NYC)...

It isn't dark chocolate but more of a cocoa and it is New Belgium Cocoa Mole. Best pure chocolate beer I have had in a while but it does have some pepper spice.

Black Chocolate doesn't taste like chocolate any more than any other imperial stout. In fact it has more a more smokey character than most, and less chocolate than a lot. Just sayin, try a taste comparison. You're judging by the name.

Another vote for this. It's pricey but so damn delicious. Oh and it's a Caldera beer if you were wondering.

I base my opinion on the fact that it is far less hop-forward than other fresh RISs of similar quality, including FIS, Yeti, and Old Rasputin, all of which show off their IBUs . Among other RISs, fresh Expedition has more of a licorice/anise flavor and Narwhal has more of a stone fruit flavor. BCS does have a distinctly chocolate flavor, but that's just me and YMMV. In all cases, it's just malts doing their thing.

Almanac Tequila Barrel Noir - if you manage to get one that isn't infected (I was 1/2) its the most decadent and rich chocolate flavour I believe I've ever gotten from a beer. Although it is not pure chocolate the spicy barrel flavours really highlight the chocolate.

I love chocolate, maybe more than beer. Most stouts with added chocolate taste like they have the "BMC" quality chocolate. I get better hints of chocolate from regular RIS stouts such as Ten Fidy.

I just finished a Coronado Barrel Aged Stupid Stout and it tasted like a bourbon-filled chocolate truffle.
