I can vouch for Brooklyn Black Chocolate Stout ... it's fantastic.

Can't vouch for the fresh part, but I plan on trying some unfresh soon.

It's no Expedition, but Brooklyn BCS cellars well. I wouldn't take it beyond a couple years, though.

Trade for a bottle of The Nothing from Smog City. Pure dark chocolate deliciousness, not really sweet at all, and no other additives (coffee, barrel-aging, etc.) Should be exactly what you're after.

    good to know ... thanks!

I plan to buy a couple four-packs over the next 2-4 months ... four-packs that surely will be hanging around here in town. And I'll drink them before the 2016 batch arrives.

Brooklyn BCS is so smooth to begin with that it doesn't seem to need aging. Not like Narwhal or Stone's vodka-hot RIS from my experience.

Speaking of, I'd put Narwhal down as relatively chocolately, though it's pretty hot without some age on it.

Last time I had ST Choklat it tasted like Hersey's chocolate syrup.

I have to agree, the malts create a perfect chocolate taste without tasting artificial or cloyingly sweet.

Don't look like anyone's mentioned New Belgium/Perennial collab from the Lips of Faith series. Salted Belgian Chocolate Stout. It's worth trying if you're looking for chocolate stouts. It's solid, but it's not mind blowing...worth trying once. Our local store still has the shelf full of this, so I would imagine it's not too hard to find.

Couldn't agree more. I get some slightly different flavors from the other stouts you mention, but that's the beauty of it all.

Has Brash restarted its operations in Texas? If so, you should check out Smoglifter. We got their beers in Georgia back when they were collocated with Clown Shoes, and Smoglifter was the best of the lot. Very viscous, chocolatey imperial milk stout. Really miss them now.

I'll add to the Samuel Smith Organic Chocolate Stout crowd. That stuff is like a liquid candy bar.

I've not heard nor seen anything about Brash, but some of their beers have been reviewed recently here on BA, so maybe they've restarted? I make frequent runs to Houston and I'll ask around next time I'm there -- and look for Smoglifter. Thanks for the tip!
