Surly Smoke is coming

Sweet lord... I really want to try this beer.

 

I'm fairly new to the BA community. Does this one garner any decent trade value?

 

How is this ber compared to Founders Smoked Porter?

 

I would be very surprised - Last years is still on the shelf around here. I have been walking by bottles of it for 12 months

 

Crazy! It comes and goes pretty quickly here in MN.

 

Interesting - just goes to show I guess. It was still on shelves at Binnys here in Chicago a month or 2 back, and I could hit 3 or 4 of the specialty stores and put together a case if I wanted. I think the price point is the killer, they want $18 for a 22oz bomber, but for $5 you can have a 17oz bottle of Schlenkerla Urbock a few feet away in the same store.

I have never even thought of buying the surly smoke because of the price

 

Yeah they charge a pretty penny for their 750s. Most of the time, it's worth it (i.e. Darkness, anniversary beers) but sometimes it's hard to justify paying near $20 for one bottle.

 

Nope. Once it hits the shelves, if history is any guide, you'll still be seeing in August.

 

Where is it? Is really like to go get some of last year's

 

Yeah, it is tough - I mean, darkness is something I really enjoy so I am OK paying a premium, and I thought eight was pretty darn good and relatively unique, but for a rauchbier I struggle since the real deal German option is right there in the store and is a third the price per ounce.
That said if I saw it on tap or if the bomber was more around the 12-13 price point I would try it for sure

Beermenus.com was pretty accurate when I checked just now. I am north shore (Evanston) and there are 2 or 3 stores near me that have it. Evanston 1st liquors for sure had it last week, and I imagine they still do.

 

Yeah, I just can't pull the trigger at that price, and based on how often I see it I think others are a bit gun shy too

 

I just always assumed it was a year round release...

 

Surly overprices things. Get used to it.

 

You can get this at almost every liquor store in the suburbs of Chicago. All last years vintage.

 

Really? I've been able to find it as recently as a month ago or so.

 

I'm a few hundred miles north of Mpls/St. Paul ... guess there wasn't much to go around in my area.

 

I found 4 bottles at a local liquor store today with 2013 on the bottle. $17.50 each. Anyone want to trade for one lmk.
