My flight lands after 1:00am in Chicago. I don't really see a point in getting a hotel room. Is anyone in/around the line at 2am? Or is that kind of nonsense reserved for things like Churchill's Renaissance.

Sorry if this sounds like a dumb question, but why didn't one of you just buy 2 tickets?

People used to line up that early back when the only place to get barrel aged Dark Lord variants was inside the brewpub. It would fill up first thing in the morning and people would just chill in there all day not giving up their seat. The line to get in would be 4+ hours. Thankfully they realized that was a horrible way of doing things and the brewpub is closed all-together during DLD. 2am is a little early, 6am sure. But 2am might be pushing it.

They aren't officially announced until a few days before at best, but there is definitely an Oloroso Sherry barrel full of Dark Lord at the brewery.

Kept getting tickets not available when we tried for 2. I was able to get 1 at 12:35 and she got hers at 12:45.

You will be able to get a bottle just might not be able to choose from all the variants (some may be gone).

Nice. Have to try different tactics. My thought was if there were not 2 there would not be 1. Probably missed out with that thinking. The event will be awesome. Crazy to think of how many people were probably trying to get tickets.

Anyone know if it sells out that quick for general admission?

Last year was the first year they did GA Tickets, and it was a lottery for them. You gave them your email, and winners were chosen randomly. So there is no telling how quick they will go. If I had to guess though, I bet they will still sell out pretty fast.

This is the first year that they have done it this way. Last year it was a lottery for the GA tickets.

I thought general consensus was that almost everyone "won" that lottery after it became apparent that GA was easy to get and the grandmules started declining...

As others have said, the closest one (Hampton Inn) is about a mile away but has been sold out for months, and has a loooong waitlist. There are a handful of hotels within a 10 mile radius though, all of which had fairly cheap rooms available as recently as yesterday, according to Google Travel. I remember seeing rooms at the Residence Inn, the Red Roof Inn, and a couple others, all for $50-100/night.

My friends and I were GA last year. To be honest, the most fun was the line outside the event from 7am to whenever they opened up, I believe 10:30. That cost nothing besides the beer you brought.

Inside was super long lines for everything but still a decent time. I did not stand in a group line though so that was probably fun. I don't know that I'd buy GA if I hadn't gotten group tickets for this year which I did (Group C).

The only reason I want Dark Lord is for trading or to send to previous trading friends. I find it to be incredibly average for its cult following. But really, DLD isn't as much about the Dark Lord as it is the bottle sharing and beer advocacy experience it provides.

I luckily got a Hampton in Schererville which is about 5.5 miles from 3F with my Hilton discount. I believe I snagged the room before they took employee pricing off, haha. We're getting to 3F around 5:30 to 6am on Saturday morning and are going to attempt to set up a nice bottle share/breakfast/lunch etc for the long wait to get in, as I posted about earlier in this thread. More details to come soon! Hope to see you there.

I believe there were 3 rounds, as in they picked more people if some of the original 1000 declined. But i think everyone I knew that entered either got the GA tix or declined the opportunity to purchase.

It really would be nice of them to do the GA sale after they do IP, or at least tell us if there will be IP tickets. I know at least a dozen people that are banking on IP tickets, but would probably do GA if they miss IP, but at this point dont want to waste $70 on a set of GA tix only to then buy the IP tickets.

That sounds about right. I don't think the GA tickets were quite the hot item they expected.

It would be nice, but I'm of the opinion that IP tix should probably just disappear at this point. Or, at least, be a thing that's offered quietly to people they know are regulars. Just shut down people from camping the lot for the next 6 weeks.

Yeah enough of that happens in the morning with people hoping that Zombie Dust is for sale that day.
