I'm driving 2 hours from Jersey. I'll go wherever it is.

Definitely try Monk's first...just beware of parking since there hardly ever is any there. Delancey street is your best bet.

also, if you don't want to circle around for street parking, the Latimer St. parking garage between 15th & 16th right by Monk's is a lot cheaper than other parking garages in the area.

Yes, after waiting that long in line, no one is going to walk at that point. So I agree it's a bit disingenuous to tell someone no one is forcing them participate at that point.

All that aside, my recollection is that there was considerable discussion over what the Capone event was likely to be like prior to Saturday, and I think a number of folks pointed out that almost certainly the pours would be very small. Maybe not this small, but I'd have been completely shocked if Matt was doing 8 or 10 pours for this event.

For someone who has never been to one of these events at Matt's before, I can see where they would be surprised and disappointed (assuming they didn't read the various BA threads before hand). However, for a lot of this.... this really shouldn't have come as a huge surprise (IMHO).

Yeah, I don't know where this 4 oz. talk is coming from. The smallest glass they possess, outside of the samplers, is a 5.5 snifter, and mine was filled to the brim.

Monk's event was great - not only had Younger and Elder, but I also tried La Folie as well. Very smoothly run, no issues getting in and getting a glass of PtY - great job!

A few people mentioned the pours being 4 oz and no one disputed it until now so I think that's where that is from. Perhaps those tiny snifters look like 4 oz to someone who's never been to Capone's (especially with a healthy head on the beer). I have to admit first time I saw one I was pretty flabbergasted.

Yeah...I remember the first time I got one too, back in the day. I remember thinking "WTF is THIS?" With the way it was priced, it looked like a big snifter masquerading as a little one. However, having purchased snifters that size by the box for tasting glasses, they're definitely 5.5. Regardless...paying more than $1 an ounce for beer on tap OR bottled, is ridiculous.

It's a good thing this isn't WineAdvocate or ScotchAdvocate. Imagine what it would cost someone to sample the highest-rated examples from those drink categories. See things aren't SO bad .

When I left younger was still pouring. You could easily get more than one. No one seemed to be counting. It was no more crowded than any night at Monks. I was happy to see no line as I turned the corner.
    Enjoy

i got a bunch of them at Zern's a couple months back for 50 cents a piece. I think they might even be crystal ha. If you ever go there, check the flea market section of it. There were a bunch more. Plus you'll probably find them inside, too. Hell, you can find anything there.

I think 12 for $21 is a great price, btw. I ordered a few dozen.

I'm having Elder and Younger right now...no line, no wait and I'm at the bar. For what it's worth, I think Younger is better.

For what it's worth, it'd be helpful to know where you are so we can share. :stuck_out_tongue:
