2006 OGV is the weakest link. The one I opened has carbon flavor and really low carbonation. Even 2006 Oude Geuze and Doesjel are underwhelming. I think 2006 is not good year at all for 3F.

06 Doesjel underwhelming? The 750s from that year are great, way better than the more recent Doesjel and better than many of the regular Oude Geuze.

Yeah, I ended up making that gueuze chicken recipe with the flat bottle. That definitely salvaged it, though it still felt wrong to use it that way.

I did enjoy the '06 Doesjel though, much more than the recent release, especially considering the price.

I just had the '06 OGV a few weeks ago and thought it was great. I liked Doesjel as well, although it's sort of a strange beast.

I guess my bottle is "too lazy" and doesn't develop at all.

I've had a couple of the 06 Doesjel in 750ml bottles recently and both were highly carbonated. The 750s tend to be way more carbonated than the 375s do.

I had a 750 carbonated doesjel at Night of the Great Thirst (at ebenezer's) last year and thought it was one of the best lambics I had that night. Possibly my number one even with Lente and Zomer being poured next to it.

Now that... Is a statement... Glad I have a 750 waiting in my cellar

Some of the St. Valentijn Cuvee version from 2007 have synthetic corks as well.

All the 2006 750mLs I've had have been highly carbonated, and quite delicious as well.

What about the 2005 bottles of Doesjel (750ml)? Are these known to be carbonated or flat? I have one, just haven't opened it yet and I'd like to hang on to it for a few more years before I do.

2005??? To my knowledge, there have only been 4 bottlings of Doesjel: 375mls on Feb 23, 2006, 750mls on Nov 30 and Dec 7 2006, and 375mls on Dec 1 2010.

I'll check the date when I get home. You're probably right then. It's probably a 2006.

Ok so you were right. It is a 12/7/2006 doesjel. Which ones are the flat ones?

I believe both 750 dates are well carbonated. I think the under carbonated/flat ones were the 375s

Thanks for the thread. I noticed last night that it's the #1 Gueuze on BA. Can't wait to try it!

I believe Lente and Zomer both have topped that list in that order; however, they are retired. All I know is 3F makes some killer Gueuze, and this one's going to be tough to find :-/

I was mostly referring to the whole "Oude Gueuze can only be made in Flanders" thing. Isn't that why Cantillon isn't in HORALS and calls it "Classic Gueuze"? I was party to quite the rant about Tilquin while I was in Belgium.
