i get aging and whatnot, isn't that a bit of a risk trading for/buying something that could so easily have become a big muckpit? Personally, I dont think I would.

    Yes, yes and yes.

Yes I would try it. Why wouldn't you is the real question.

Yes I would trade for it for a reasonable price and if I was confident the person stored it under the proper conditions.

Yes I would buy it for a reasonable price from a shop I frequent knowing they store things correctly and do the right thing. Would I buy a 99' Bigfoot from bevmo, no.

I guess it would depend on your experience with aged Bigfoots.

I've had the opportunity to try an 8-yr-old against a 10-yr-old bottle and found the 8-yr-old to be better all around. I would assume anything 10 years or older would be past Bigfoot's prime.

But my experience is limited and would be interested in hearing from others much more acquainted with Bigfoot than I am.

I have wines in my cellar that I've had since the early 90's some are great when opened some aren't. I'd surely try a 99 Bigfoot just out of curiosity.

We did 2013 down to 1998 Bigfoot at a tasting a few months back. Everything past 2006 was straight cardboard. Those before it were still tasting like Imperial IPAs.

My tasting group opened a 1995 last weekend and it was still drinking like a champion... A surprising amount of bitterness left. Slight oxidation, but not a cardboard mess at all.

What order did you do this tasting? If you did 2013 first, I can see you guys not tasting as much by the time you got to 1998.

We did freshest first. I'm not a fan of Bigfoot at all, way too much hops for my liking, and the older ones mellowed just in time to oxidize so there never was a sweet spot for me.

About a year ago, I got to taste 1998, 1996, 1995, and 1988 Bigfoot that were apparently properly cellared. Some were better than others (one had a ton of sludgy sediment) but they were all drinkable and definitely worth trying.

I dont mind barleywines, but wouldnt forgo finances for one like that. A friend has some that he's pushing to try. I'd rather do a stout that old though. I feel like theres more that could go wrong in a barleywine that age.
