Yeah I am not getting this. I guess if I drank craft beer just because it was made by a small brewery, and I wanted to support them, then yeah this is a great site. But again good beer is what you think good beer is. I like goose island IPA and I will drink it when I find it and nothing better. As someone mentioned above if they didn't jack with the recipe I see no reason to boycott the beer because ABev bought it. I think in the case of Goose Island it freed them up to do some more interesting things with their barrel aging program and such. If I happen to buy a beer I had never had before and really enjoyed it and found out later it was a new beer by bud/miller/coors so what, probably would keep drinking it because it would have to be cheaper than all the shit I am buying now. Man when I go into a Sams/Costco and see a 24 pack of bud light aluminum 16 oz for $18 I truly get jealous. So no don't get it and don't really care.

What I'd rather see is a blacklist of brewers who (in my opinion) have been assholes:

    Current List:
    1. West 6th (playing the victim and crying when Magic Hat sent them a very reasonable copyright cease and desist then lying about it)
    2. Oasis (similar story as West 6th, see current thread on BA in issue with New Belgium)
    3. Country Boy Brewing (Were craft figureheads for HB 168 in KY which set back distribution rights for craft brewers back 50 years, oh, and their beer sucks).

The website I think is more targeted to those that may not realize what brewery or beer marketing company a beer is really owned by. Most BA users probably already know, and make the choices they want accordingly.

I don't really see it as "political", more like "consumer awareness".

I agree with you in the sense that if I like something I'm gonna drink it. But I'm gonna have to disagree that macro lagers are drinkable. To each his own

That is the goal of every fucking brewery in existance. Steal taps and shelf space. There is a finite amount of each.

Oregon? That's news to me. I've been working in the industry here for a decade, and I haven't heard shit about AB trying to pass laws that limit our ability to fill growlers or stop breweries from self-distribution. If they have, they've been failing miserably, because there are growler station popping up everywhere, and a couple years ago the OR legislature passed a bill that raised the self-distribution cap from 1,500 to 5000bbls.

It's one thing if it's through consumer demand, that's fine.

It's another if the AB distributor tells the bar/store, "carry all of these SKUs, or you lose the cash cow of Bud and Bud Light"

I generally don't mind who gets my money, unless it's someone participating in an immoral activity (think murder or ****). If a small business obtains my money, the owner will use it to acquire more assets and expand his business. If a corporation obtains my money, the board of directors will use it to acquire more assets and expand "their" business.

The money will always be getting funneled to workers of small businesses and corporate entities, who will then go on to spend the money locally. I don't understand the argument that supporting small businesses helps "local" interests more than supporting corporations, as local entities are also supported whenever someone purchases an iPhone (they're just different local interests).

As for corporations purchasing smaller breweries, I'm generally supportive, as it usually results in larger distribution and better consistency.

    Cheers.

I look at this and think Flying Dog. If Flying Dog has nothing to do with this, it's a blatant ripoff.

All I'll say is if BMC is trying to stop the proliferation of craft beer I'd ask them to keep doing what they're doing. Craft beer is seemingly expanding at an unbelievable rate and its a perfect time to enjoy great, locally made suds. What would the scene look like if they weren't trying to slow craft down?

There's no room for facts here! Hush up you! You're going to lose all your Beer Karma for not vilifying AB/MC!

I've been chuckling to myself reading all the posts about how AB is the devil and working to put craft brewers out of business...well....yeah. Strangely, craft brewers are working every day to put AB out of business. That's how business works people, everybody always wants a bigger piece of the pie. Who is the easiest to take share from, the guys who have half the market, or somebody who does 1,000 bbl/year?

Hell, craft brewers are doing a decent job of trying to put each other out of business: In Cincinnati, one growing brewery hired away the head brewer of another brewery and was going to have him hang out sell some wine for a year until his non compete expired and he could start brewing again, leaving the "other brewery" horribly understaffed in brewing talent. Gasp! That wasn't nice at all!

Thirsty Dog in Northern Ohio puts out 12 Dogs of Christmas...which is the exact same beer as Great Lakes Christmas Ale (for all intents and purposes) because (if I've heard the story right) a brewer at GLBC got pissed off and went down the road, got a new job and knocked off the same beer. Great Oden's Raven! That doesn't fit my idea that all craft brewers got together once a month for bong hits, pints and a long bike ride together!

Yeah, but the numbers of the two sides are quite different. At the federal level:

"lobbying in Washington has trended down in recent years. Someone forgot to clue in beer giant Anheuser-Busch InBev (NYSE: BUD ) on that, however, as the beer behemoth is spending more money lobbying politicians than ever before, plunking down $4.3 million in 2013. In contrast, MillerCoors (the SABMiller and MolsonCoors joint venture) forked over $2 million, while Sam Adams manufacturer Boston Beer spent a measly $130,000 on lobbying in 2013."
