best part about fests is the necklace. If only it was acceptable to wear pretzels and snacks on your neck in general public i would probably wear one every day.

Haha, I don't have to try to be pretty fat. I accomplished that perfectly well once I started getting into craft beer 6 years ago.

So I guess my question for all the guys who are going to be making a day of this is:

Are people planning on being there/hanging out all day, or is mid-afternoon the tipping point (when inebriation hits critical mass) when everyone is going to start packing up?

The reason I ask is that my girlfriend doesn't want to get there early, so we're probably going to arrive in the early afternoon (and will be seeing the late end of things).

It's not illegal so go for it. Who cares what the general public thinks.

Some quick tips for the new to DLD folks:

    - Tasting tables: Share whichever beer you wish but DO NOT open bottles that are not yours nor take them away from the table to which you are pouring a beer out for general consumption.
    - HOLD ONTO YOUR BOTTLES (DL or otherwise). If you are not diligent (and this gets worse later in the day) your stuff WILL GET STOLEN. If you see someone engaging in stealing someone else's bottles, notify security/police, etc. and get that person arrested, if possible. This is a HUGE issue every year and it has only gotten worse of late.
    - Pace yourself.
    - Bring sunscreen.
    - Drink lots of water.
    - Remember to eat something.
    - If you are drinking (even a "little") DO NOT DRIVE. Police are out in force on DLD and it's just never a good idea to drink and drive.
    - DO NOT CUT IN LINE. Be respectful, please. There are already a few well-known folks who will more than likely be engaging in this activity. Please do not join them.
    - Bring a glass, beer, a smile, and a friendly attitude and you'll have a great time meeting folks from all over the country.

    Cheers!

    Our goal is this (roughly).

    - Leave hotel and set up shop on the Progress Ave line approx 6am
    - Get breakfast going, crack first beer around 7
    - Bottle share/BS until the gates open at 10:30
    - We're in group B&C, so we'll decide at that point what we're doing inside. We may go check out if they have to go sales or not, and then eventually hit up the Group lines. We'll probably have to do it in shifts so we don't have to break down our setup.
    - Get lunch going (we're bringing a mega pot of chili)
    - Hit up a guest tap line if they aren't super ridiculous
    - Hang out the rest of the day probably at the tailgate.
    - Cook dinner (burgers/brats/etc) on the grill
    - We plan on drinking as much water as possible during the morning bottle share so we don't hit critical mass at 2pm like it did last year, haha

Some of this will change I'm sure, but yeah we plan on being there until at least 6-7pm. Taking it easy in the morning and keeping hydrated and our belly's full will definitely help.

That being said...bring on the beer...

Grills aren't allowed inside for sure. Tailgating I doubt there will be a problem. Yeah definitely hit us up, I'll make a more official post once we're set on everything we're doing so people that want to come hang out know where to look and what we're doing!

My group has traditionally been at the South entrance simply because we figured that side was primarily for A guys. That said, we do have someone with A tix this year, so we may end up over there anyways. Have you ever had any issues getting in without an A ticket on that side?

Nope, not at all! Last year we didn't have A and had no issues getting in. Hopefully others can echo the same sentiments.

    This. So much this.

This is why my Group A "Buy DL, eat BBQ, go to wedding" plan involves not drinking any beer on DLD. No tasting in line, no low ABV with lunch. There are too many check points around the event and I want to honestly answer "no" if cops ask if I've been drinking.

Anyone have any experience (postive or negative) staying at the Best Western Northwest Indiana Inn in Hammond? Just need it as a basic base of operations for crashing. Looks to be about half the cost of the Residence and Fairfield Inn & Suites.
