Sink the Bismark and Tactical Nuclear Penguin are both ridiculously overpriced. Everytime you cough up the usual $60 a bottle BrewDog pisses themselves laughing at you.

Doesn't that mean the Brewdog chaps are getting drunk!?!

No, to 'get pissed' is to get drunk, to 'piss oneself laughing' means to laugh so much that there is loss of bladder control (though one doesn't usually interpret it literally).

Budweiser is $20 a six pack here.

Oh, Australia. I like you, but I can't wait to get back to decent beer that I can afford.

I love craft beer but the insane industry prices have made me consider switching to wine altogether. There are only a few talented craft breweries left that I know of that aren't hell bent on gouging their customers aka Alchemist, Alpine, Boulevard. Anything over $45 for a bottle(which is the norm for most releases) to me is unjustifiable when considering the fact that there are many good wines that are around that price point and lower, but their product varies with the climate and land conditions, whereas craft breweries can brew great beer anywhere without the need to spend large sums of money on acres of land in Napa. My point being is that the prices for good beers should not be exceeding those of wines. Funny thing is I was about to post a thread similar to this but the OP beat me to it.

I don't think quality wines are using "grape juice" that you buy from the store. I think most of the value from whiskey comes from it's aging potential, which few beers have the ability to come close to(sours/imperial stouts). P.S. I've met a few people who tried arguing that pliny is best after 3+ months.

Dogfish Head 120 Minute IPA. Selling today for $21 for a 12-oz bottle at Dalton's Bar and Grill in New York City. Most local beer stores have one-per customer rule here.

My solution is that any beer that I find to be out of my comfort range from a pricing standpoint will be left right on the shelf, no matter how much hype said beer might be getting. There are still tons of world class beers sitting on shelves that are very reasonably priced. I just think that this craft beer industry has instilled in its community a sense of 'fear of missing out' and it is causing a lot of hysteria. When you have that chaotic sort of situation it leads to a place where brewers and retailers alike can leverage that to their advantage. The pricing that is on the 'ridiculous' end of the spectrum will come down only when folks acquire the same mindset that they don't or won't pay. But it definitely seems like you have enough willing to pay said prices that the trend will only continue to get worse. All you have to do is look at pricing for Bourbon county variants. In 2012, 4 packs were going for 19.99 (in my area). Fast forward two years later and that same 4 pack has gone up to $28. That pricing structure makes no sense at all, given the AB-inBev acquisition and increase in production /distribution. Folks are running out and buying it anyways, so why would they not increase the price every year?

True, in the long run beer prices are set by beer drinkers not beer brewers.

Alvinne Omega showed up in town again. $5.49 for a 330ml bottle. ~$33 a six pack and imho, worth every dollar, if I were to buy a sixer. For those who have had it, would you disagree?

I've been waiting for a thread like this to ask everyone what their Deal with the Devil prices are. Here in NoDak, I had to drop $45 for one!!! THAT hurt a little bit...and makes me never want to drink it :grimacing:

i actually liked the title of this thread and have 2 cents to add. on the point of 120 dfh (or 90min for that matter) for example, its high price 4 packs vs the similarly highish priced 6ers of 60 min, i am going to go with the more reasonable six 60 minutes as four beers, um... well, are usually not enough... and cheap beer is not purchased for flavor... and expensive beer is something i can hardly justify indulging in but on occasion however i seem to do so far more often

That went straight to the cellar. Sometimes I'll hold on to them for trades or bring it to a social gathering to share - the managers at the bar I work at, we usually try to bring in something that we've never had on tap or something new or wacky. As well as being the number 1 rated American barleywine!....or very very close. Plus Anchorage makes everything delicious, so I thought, "Why not?"
