Captain's Daughter has been too inconsistent for me. I've never had a bad Heady, even at a month to two months old. But I've had some drain pours of CD.

That said, both are great DIPAs, but I'd take SOS over both if I had the choice.

I found the initial CD offerings to be quite stellar. Everything since then has been inconsistent. CD is a great beer when brewed to standard, but even then, it can't compete with HT. Let's be real, please. Alchemist is on a whole different level. Cheers.

C'mon man let the Rhode Island folks get a moment in the sun. I mean, I know you are right about this, but let the RI guys shine a bit.

@cavedave, I hear you. I'm all about letting other people radiate. I'll just drink my Two Hearted and be quiet.

I'll be honest, I didn't read your whole reviews on both. I will say that I have had multiple cans of both and I still have a 4 pack of Captain's Daughter in the fridge. To me, Heady Topper is head and shoulders above ANY IPA, DIPA, IIPA, IIIPA, etc. that I've had. And I've had most of the top rated hoppy beers on this site. Heady Topper brings forth waves of flavors that may differ from the sip before it. Captain's Daughter has awesome tropical fruit flavors that bring forth flavors of papaya and what not.

With all this being said, I prefer Heady Topper, Double Sunshine, Julius, Haze, Gandhi Bot, and Substance Ale over Captain's Daughter. And I love Captain's Daughter

    I
I guess I have a big wish list then. I have en route a 4 pack of ghandi, and one of sip of sunshine so those will be getting a review next

I highly recommend doing a side-by-side with Captain's Daughter and Sip of Sunshine. Heady and CD aren't all that similar (except for mouthfeel, perhaps), and I think Heady is clearly in another class, but the CD/SoS comparison is striking, IMO.

But RIers should be very proud of CD. This is an excellent (albeit inconsistent, as others have noted) brew. It's miles above anything Grey Sail has ever put out before, and it's a legitimately tradeable beer.

No, I don't, but this thread isn't about the best DIPA in RI.

CD is great, but i would have to agree with alot of you here. Heady takes the win. I would rate CD better than current batches of gandhi, i will give you rhode island guys that one. Sip on the other hand is right up there with heady if we are talking about non brewery only release IPAs. Heady and sip are still kings. Throw non distro new england IPAs in the list and CD would not even make my top ten. Great review!

Captains Daughter is an excellent beer. I don't mean it any disrespect. I rated it a 4.49 and I would gladly drink it quite often.
It just isn't in the elite class.

I Don't see Epiphany on your list ....and it wouldn't have been on mine until I tried it this past Sunday (see NBS)
This to me is THE one currently.

Agreed. But I think if thy can solve their inconsistency problems they will move up a notch or two. I just get the feeling as mentioned in previous posts they have an unexpected massive demand that is forcing them to speed up production. Which to me explains that occasional diacytyl taste.

Captains daugter is a great DIPA but no where in the same class as Heady or the Bot.

I am 100% in agreement. Second fiddle is # 1 in VT and Swish and Second fiddle are arguably # 1 and # 2 in the universe w/Epiphany the young colt who gets up in the photo finish for 3rd place

I do love the report but I was wondering about Captain's Daughter and its production and availability. Is it produced regularly or is it a seasonal? I don't see it much...

I just finished a growler of Trillium Double Dry Hopped Publick House IPA. A stand out IPA, it was incredibly juicy and bright! I can also say that UPPER CASE was pretty damned good too when I had it Saturday night. We ARE spoiled here in NE, but really the entire country is killing the style right now. PROSIT!
