So I picked this beer up about a month ago when I was in Virginia at a top notch beer store and just tried it earlier this evening.
As this is a Milk Stout when I poured it I was a little perplexed as it looked like an IPA.. I then proceed to smell and try to taste it a bit and I nearly gagged. I have added a photo so it is clear what I am talking about.
One of the more bizarre experiences I have had with a beer!

Whoa, you're right. That Milkman is totally off. It looks just like a Milkmaid!

Hmm the reviews seem to be split.. half say amber and and a couple say golden .. none the less it smelled horrid and tasted even worse.
I didn't get anything close to caramel or coffee.. It tasted worse than having to drink piss!

Your title is a bit misleading but from my understanding the Colab with Cigar City and Hardywood produced The Milkman and the Milkmaid. What you have pictured is The Milkmaid which is supposed to be like that from their description. I have not personally tasted the Milkmaid but I will vouch for the Milkman and say it's a beautiful collaboration.

    Cheers,

@DeadWalkerAir nailed it on the look is what is should be. It is only a couple months old but how did you have this stored? If room temp them maybe it has soured a bit but I wouldn't expect a milk stout to go bad that quick even if stored unrefrigerated.

Whatever happened to predictability? The Milkmaid, the paperboy...even TV?

By chance, you think your tastes buds were off because you expected a darker looking beer? Like Master Of Disguise, I love it. Drinking a beer that tastes like a stout yet looking like a pale ale is a great experience. I think MOD was closer on the stout experience than Milkmaid, but I loved it nonetheless.

Did you drink the piss in a tasting group or was this something you drank at home by yourself?

I've had a few white/golden stouts recently and I was wondering if they would taste more like a normal stout if I couldn't see the color of the beer. They all seem to have an interesting flavor that is stout-like, but not quite there and I can't tell if its actually the flavor or if my mind is playing tricks on me because the beer looks like an IPA. Funny enough, I thought Milkmaid was closer to a coffee stout than MOD. Drinking beers of this style is definitely an interesting experience.

Yep apologies for that I did list it incorrectly as Milkman instead of Milkmaid.
    Anyhow

I have been thinking about this all day.
As other have mentioned it is certainly possible that because it looked like an IPA I was expecting it to taste like one but I don't think this was the case. For one I made sure the beer was properly refrigerated the whole time and also even just the smell of it told me something was not quite right. Lastly yes I messed up and wrote - Milkman instead of Milkmaid. So sue me! - all in all this was an interesting experience and Cigar City is still one of my favorite breweries so I look forward to trying more of their stuff...

Can you describe the taste other than "worse than drinking piss"?

Sure - I think I covered that in my first post - it made me want to get sick.. nothing like I have ever tasted before and I have had many different kinds of beer/liquors in my life!

That's not describing the taste, its describing how the taste made you feel. No worries though, I have a bottle, I'll just wait and find out for myself.
