Oh, one more thing on that topic: Wirte who put their Kölsch in anything else than a Kölsch stange can be sued due to the Kölsch Konvention. It happened.
But in practice, I know of a few select places here and there who do it anyways, maybe for practicability reasons. For instance, a place in Bonn has a concert venue in the basement. Imagine when during a concert, a Köbes would run around through the masses with tiny 0.2 stangen. So they use (kölsch branded:wink:) mugs. Way better during a show.
At family gatherings, I myself use a 0,5l willybecher when a Pittermännchen Kölsch is there, mainly because I hate getting up all the time.
I used to get weird looks when I started doing it, but they know me by now...

IMO, Willi Becher glasses 'work' great for Fastenbier:

I dare say you'd all be horrified at what I drank a Celebrator out of yesterday.

I think unfiltered beers are great for the ceramic mug for this exact reason - they're "ugly" to look at anyway! ("ugly" is a bad word here, what I really mean is "not as pretty as the filtered stuff"). In fact...

...while I have yet to try my Willibecher with the Fastenbier, so far, after extensive testing, my Steinkrug is in the lead for "Best Fastenbier Vessel".

Urban Chestnut uses this type of glass for their Pilsners. I'd rather have a Becher glass.

Yes, the best name I've seen for this is a Feku, but I stick to Fancy Pants Glass.

I'm ok with lower abv beers in nonics, dimpled mugs, tulip pints....etc. As far as I know the English only use these glasses and do not put their beers in snifters. I'm not sure where it originated, but if I had to guess, the "stronger beers need to go in a snifter" douche baggery is a US thing.

You could argue this stems from the Belgian's use of a chalice. But I'd also argue even though many of their beers are stronger, a beer such as a Rochefort (6, 8 or 10) is far more complex than a double IPA.

Again disclaimer: I use snifters for many beers, but it's more of a novelty rather than a requirement.

I'd say the Teku is the german douchebag nerd glass. Don't get me wrong, I own one and I love mine. I mainly drink wines from it. And yes it is good for tasting a lot of beers.
What irritates me though is how many new german wannabe nerds put anything in it, regardless of style, tradition, or even purpose- a simple Helles in a Teku during a drinking session feels wrong on so many levels!
    Nope,Trier, not too far though.

If I was to speculate, I could find a lot of reasons for the high ABV beers being in snifters -- starting with Michael Jackson and ending at the U.S. drinking and driving laws -- with plenty of profit margin in-between to add to the rise in usage.

in my experience a lot of north german pubs (in towns where pils is the main drink) will use a tulip type glass for pilsners, berlin definitely, unless you specifically order a large one which will come in a variety of different mugs

Certainly where i'm from (northern England) you'll get a pint in a either a nonic or a shaker style pint glass, dimpled mugs are a strange one, they were seen as an "old man" glasses and still are amongst a lot of people but hipsters seem to like to use them in an ironic fashion aswell

I can't remember what sort of glass was used in London when I ordered a German beer -- I don't believe it was an imperial pint, but I could be wrong.

So this glass -- pilsner or hefeweizen? I have a hard time telling the difference sometimes. At .99 cents at the local Goodwill, I wasn't going to quibble either way.
