Here's the set she picked out from Libbey, a darn good choice, IMO.

That's what I'd thought, but then that damned Google got me all confused. Ah, technology, you fickle temptress.

(Ha, and it was @JackHorzempa's link below to C&B that got me particularly confused!)

I drink my Pilsners out of that glass. At 1 buck that is a GREAT price; much cheaper than what Crate & Barrel charges for that glass (assuming a size of 17 ounces):

    Cheers

I think it's to pour a smaller sample while still serving it in a full glass (and charging full price).

That's where the profit margin comes into play.

ah, sorry, let me qualify my last post, im referring to when drinking english beer in england, you're right in that many places who serve international beer will have corresponding glassware, some of it made specifically for the uk market. oh, and london isnt england as far as im concerned

Yeah, I was going to say, the dimpled mug is alive and well in Birmingham at least! (photo taken in The Victoria)

As for the pilsner glass talk, I have been to a very German bar that served Hoepfner in a tulip very simiar to what Jack posted above (the Spiegelau Pilsner glass). I myself am partial to my straight(-ish) sided footed glass. My only problem with it is that it's the 330 ml variety and not 500 ml.

I figured that you were, but since "universal" glassware is often used here in the States, I was just trying to recall what was used similarly for a foreign beer in another country.
Can you shed some light on the "specific" glassware?
    Oh no, another one.

haha, yep! im from the peoples republic of south yorkshire, londons another country to me!

With regard to the specific glassware what i mean is that i know a lot of foreign breweries that market and sell their beer here in the uk who supply glassware specific to that beer that isnt neccesarily the same as the glassware thats used in their home country for the same beer, ill dig out some examples later when im home. Kuppers kolsch comes to mind immediately, there are a couple of pubs in sheffield that serve it and it is served in a kuppers branded straight sided sort of pint glass not a kolsch stange, but not quite an english pint pot either

Anecdotally most snifters I own/have been served beer in were about 16 oz. Only exceptionally high abv/rare beers have been served to me in smaller snifters (Kentucky Breakfast Stout for example).

I can see this with tulip glasses though, although I find the snifter to be more prominent among US beer geeks.

The oversized wine glass and Duvel tulip are all larger as well.

Exactly... I recall US brewpubs I visited in the early 90's serving any and every style in a shaker pint for the same price. Now? ~67% of the old size at +25-50% the old cost. Cha-ching!! Oh well....

    Prosit!!

That's how I understood your post and it piqued my curiosity over the glassware. Be interested to see what they're providing.

Thats the glass becks is sold in in uk pubs yep. Its basically all a marketing thing, most of the german fersehbiers available here are marketed as"premium continental lagers" and are served in ridiculous vase type glasses, its even worse with czech beers, until recently urquell was served in a tall stemmed pint glass. Ill grab some photos when i get chance and maybe start a new thread on it

Sort of a modified Becher, eh?
I think I have one of those, retailer gave it to me because he knew I liked Urquell. Similar to this?

Marketing indeed, probably the same the world over.

Yep, exactly like that, they look kind of ridiculous in a big full pint size, luckily theyve now started switching to the proper mugs, i think in part due to the fact that hipsters like mugs over here

I have that Pilsner Urquell glass, I love it for pilsners. Sort of looks like this one....and if it's good enough for these guys, it's good enough for me.
