If you look directly to your left...I of course selected DIPAs, but my love of stouts and old ales keep growing.

For me the answer is Belgium Quads it seems as if each brewery puts their best foot forward when making one. I do have a special place in my heart for imperial stouts.

Imperial and Russian Imperial Stouts top my list, but BSDA/Quads, BW's, and doppelbocks are close behind. I think it's a good thing that this question is tough.

There's a big difference between a Tripel and a Belgian Strong Pale Ale.

I chose DIPA because that's what I drink more often than the Imp Stout which is second on my list. DIPA's are in the cooler almost year round and the Imp Stout for maybe four or five months during the Winter, of course there's always the Fall when I tend to mix them as a high test Black and Tan if you will to ease  into the Stout season

A year ago I'd have said stouts, but I have really fallen in love with English barleywines and old ales. Add me to the number of people that don't think American and English barleywines should be put in the same category.

Definitely a Belgian Tripel. For me, they are a beer that I have on occasion but when I do, I really enjoy them. Easy drinking and full of pleasant fruity/bready notes despite a high abv.

In any of these really silly questions, why pick 1? its why we have all the choices? give me Belgian, and anything over 6% and I am happy....does not mean I do not love a great Stout or RIS, or Porter than is stronger than the normal stouts, lol. so silly............

its beer...I know your drinking a strong 1 or two and these questions are really hard to come up with, you know an original one...at least. lol

Seeing as a majority of my Top 10 beers out of 3100 written reviews is English Barleywines and Old ales I am going to go with both of those. They are pretty similar from a style standpoint as it is. I love English strong ales.

Well, actually, Tripels are probably my favorite style, but after a 10 year vertical of Old Stock a couple weeks, Old Ales are fresh on my mind. Plus, I lovez me some Old Sol when Big Time releases it every year, so I woulda voted for Wheatwines too.

I chose Belgian quads, but I equally love Belgian triples, Imperial Stouts, American strong ales and Barleywines. Thery're all sooooo delicious!

You might be on same wavelength as me with beer style favorites. Tripels have been my favorite style for years; but with some recent sampling of 2+ year Old Stock and some BBA/regular English barleywines, I am pretty much going to have to say that English Barleywine and Old Ales top my favorites.

I don't see much difference between English Barleywine and Old Ale. I don't drink many strong beers, but the old ales are always tasty brews. Sam Smith Yorkshire Stingo is listed as an English Strong Ale. Not sure how that figures into all of this, but that's one of my favorites when it comes to brews on the higher ABV side (though it's a light weight compared so some of the other beers discussed in this thread).

La Trappe Quad has always been one of my top Trappist beers, with it's lighter influence on darker malty complexity and more fruity notes it really appeals to me. Tripels are my favorite Belgian style so I absolutely love paler "Quads". I'd even put it above ABT 12 and other darker versions of the labeled style.

Most are pretty similar, but some old ales have more of a tart/green apple flavor to them
