DIPA first. Imperial Stout is a close second.

Apparently you didn't choose it either.

Kasteel Donker is another one that stands out for going in a different direction than many of the other Belgian Strong Dark Ales- it's got a great roast malt complexity to it that brings it very close to Imperial Porter territory. Sort of the opposite direction of La Trappe, but still fairly unique in its own way.

Imperial stout would be my favorite, but I drink more high abv barleywine due to more choices. Does this make sense?

I was torn between Imperial Stout and Imperial IPA so I flipped a coin. Imperial Stout won 2 out of 3.

I went with barleywine. Specifically, American BW. Old Guardian and Uinta Anniversary are the two that really got me addicted to the style. A close secodn and third are Old Ale and wheatwine.

Yes, I've always liked the La Trappe beer and perhaps I would also rather have it than the other two. I think it has much more in common with 'tripels' such as Maredsous 10 (or perhaps beers such as Piraat) than the famous 'quadrupels'. Perhaps La Trappe Quadrupel should no longer be classified as a quadrupel. It's ratings would probably improve!

Probably the baggy, catch-all categories of American and British Strong Ales, where you can find lots of brews that are both big and well balanced.
