My fiance is going to Chicago on business this Sunday for a week and has agreed to bring me back a few choice selections from your area back to Austin.

Goose Island, Bell's, FFF, and Founders are a couple breweries I've had from the region and love that I cannot get here. What are the choice selections nowadays that I should have her lug back down here? Any suggestions? What's hot? She's going to be going to Springfield to visit a friend and then to Chicago for some boring Accounting seminar.

Founders Frangelic Mountain Brown may still be available. Have her pick you up some of Half Acre's Daisy Cutter when she is in the city. Bell's Two Hearted Ale is a very affordable MUST have that is widely available. Enjoy!

goose island Juliet/lolita is still around for 20 a bottle, Floyds dreadnaughts and panzer wolfs at 11 bucks a bottle or more rare blackheart is still on shelves or even better Apocolypse cow is still around and is very good at 12ish$! I would tell her to go big if she is hauling it back...half acre and/or revolution growlers!!

Ask her to look for Pipeworks. There's going to be a hoppy red ale (Blood of the Unicorn) and a saison with pink peppercorns (Poivre Rose) releasing this week -- there might be some bottles of their DIPA (Ninja vs. Unicorn), Belgian IPA (Glaucus), wheat porter (Froggy Style) and coffee stout (Hyper Dog), too.

Otherwise, Juliet and Lolita are worth trying, depending on your budget. Apocalypse Cow is great. People seem to go nuts for Half Acre's Daisy Cutter (it's fine but, I don't know, nothing to lose your shit over).

Your post indicates "3 Great Beers..." so is that an indication that she is flying and will have to pack up the choice recommendations in her luggage? Are you looking only for 750 ml or 22 oz bottles for ease of packing? Some beers recommended above are in large bottle format only, and some are 12 oz bottles only so some information from you about how much she is willing to carry will help direct the recommendations.

Also, I hope Texans aren't too gullible. Don't get your hopes up about some of the beers that were recommended above unless it is a hope along with a prayer.

Shes actually driving up with coworkers, so format doesnt matter. 3 was just the number i figured if i went past, she would complain about me being a pain in the ass

The recommendations for Half Acre's Daisy Cutter and Bell's Two-Hearted are great choices if you like IPAs. Anything that can be found that is from Three Floyds is also a great choice, so study their availability list on their website for your preferred styles and have her look for them. Gumballhead and Zombie Dust would be at the top of my FFF list to look to find (both are year-round but they can be very scarce).

+1 to trying to nab something from Pipeworks. Ninja vs Unicorn is awesome, and i'm guessing a bit different from what you get down south. Have a bottle of Blood of the Unicorn that i still haven't cracked yet, so can't comment on that. Everyone seems to be naming all the standard stuff everyone *always* names. I might have her stop at one of the suburbs outside the city on her way up from Springfield and try and get some Two Brothers stuff. A lot of BA's, myself included, will tell you that their "safe" beers, but they are very well made, solid offerings from a local brewery. Depending on how theyre driving, anywhere around the Aurora/Naperville area will carry just about everything they have. Seems that the closer you get to the city, the less you see from them. If you're lucky, she might be able to find a 2Bros Hop Juice still on shelf. A lot of Whole Foods still have them. Go here: http://www.seekabrew.com and you can compare your state to here and then look stuff up on the breweries websites. Good way to try new things. Get something you haven't had before.

Will she be downtown or in the burbs? Maybe a BA could meet up with her and help her pick stuff out. Any excuse to go to a beer store is a good one.

Thanks for the suggestions, guys. I told her about this thread and she said that, in order not to seem like a "bitch" to you guys for only bringing 3 beers back from her trip, she's going to bring back 5 beers to spite me. Ha, Thanks for that.

I'll let you know what she gets.

I made her a list before seeing her off. I am not the most gullible of Texans, so I'm figuring that if she hits one of these, it's basically paydirt.

Bell's is one brewery I'm not worried about... my dad got me 4 6-packs of Hopslam this year. Apparently they only drink Corona in Miami

    Update:

    So far she's scored...
    Goose Island - Sofie
    Bell's - Two Hearted Ale (6-pack)
Two Brothers - Hop Juice DIPA

She said "The man at the liquor store said your list is a difficult one". Good job guys

I'll update if she gets me anything else. :grinning:

Binny's in Lincoln Park and on Grand (kinda downtown) both have Juliet and Lolita on the shelf. Where in town is she?
