I'll be headed down at the end of this week and am looking for spots that will have the NCAA tournament on(preferably with sound). I remember seeing TVs at Obrien’s, Alpine, Pizza Ports, Hamiltons...any other great beer bars or breweries that might have the game?

You may want to try Draft in Mission Beach. Enormous tap list, right on the beach, and a sufficient number of TVs.

    What's your team - UCLA?

Good luck - I'm a Wisconsin fan. Looks like MSU has a nice path to the Final Four, even as a seven.

Here's hoping, but I don't see them getting out of the Elite 8...just atrocious free throw shooting. Wish we could shoot like the Badgers...

Along with Draft, PB has a lot of good choices - Tap Room, Barrel Republic, and Backyard all have plenty of TVs and will generally have sound on for big sporting events. Beer wise, the first two are a bit above Backyard but Backyard's taplist has some solid choices.

Pizza Port OB has plenty of TVs but I don't know about sound, never gone there specifically for a sporting event. Hamilton's will be packed so it might be tough to get a seat with a good view of the TV. Alpine was showing professional tennis this past Saturday afternoon rather than NCAA games...you may be able to ask to have the games on, but who knows whether they'll do it.

Syracuse fan here, but pulling for your Badgers since I'm the only person that has them in my pool (everyone else is Kentucky).

Good day, please add in many jokes for fun. I would appreciate it, also looking forward to the new guide. Despite being a native here even I used your guide about 2 revisions ago just to find some other places to try.

If you make it up to the Ballast Point in Miramar, I'll be happy to trade some great local stuff with you. Let me know when you're coming in and I'll have it waiting behind the bar.

Sadly, BA's limited post editing - 15 minutes I believe - makes this impractical. If I could come back to it on 04/02 and edit out the jokes, I absolutely would, but having jokes interspersed for three months would make it a lot less useful.

And even if you're ever not allowed to, there are plenty of dark alleys in san diego where you can make the trade for the "stuff".

Speaking of, I really need to get back into the habit of doing IP trades in weird dark alleys from the trunk of my car wearing a black leather duster and have my better half dressed all in black wearing dark sunglasses super late at night as my lookout/backup. Then depending on how the other IP trader is about it will determine the # of extras they get. =P

    Yay games!

Between this thread and the Suds County documentary, I'm getting pretty jacked for my SD visit in May...

By the time you get here, SD should be at 105 breweries.

Thanks for all the info Xul.

Am coming to San Diego June 20 - 26 for a course and this thread was exactly what I was looking for.

Hope to hit the San Diego International Beer Festival, maybe I could hook up with a couple BA brothers (will be flying solo).

Will go back through your suggestions, but could you also recommend a good old fashion Irish Pub in SD?

Any beer tasting classes going on that week I could attend? Working on my Cicerone.

Again thank you Xul, and any advice welcome from all. But PM me so we don't hyjack Xul's thread.

edit....Don't know if I will be on or off post. Last time we were near gas lamp district, but no time to get out much. I will have a car.

On the contrary, I'd like to see people respond with questions, recommendations, and feedback so that each quarterly thread contains as much information as possible for visitors.

As far as Irish pubs, The Field and Dublin Square downtown are both supposed to be reasonable facsimiles of an Irish pub. I believe Dublin Square's bar is actually built using wood from an old pub in Ireland, or at least that's how the story goes. Shakespeare's is a good English pub not far from downtown, but for other Irish pub options, hopefully someone else can chime in.

    Cheers.
