Rum Oil: I had Rum Oil with the headbrewer in person 2 weeks ago and he said "it's not aging well" and in hindsight there should have been "drink fresh" on the bottle.
Nooner 8: Every one that had Nooner 8 with me the Friday before Hunahpu's Day said it was falling off already. I trust those 8 other opinions. Also, Cycle's disclaimer screamed, "Drink fresh" to me thus concluding they will NOT age well.

So, to answer your main question. You can conclude these types of things from talking with the person who made it or make a group consensus with people you trust. Then take time frames into account and you can very easily gauge how fast a beer is falling off. It's not rocket science, but it's all opinions in the end. I tend to trust the brewer (and my own palate) at the very least though.

All of my friends that had Nooner 8 Friday and whatever day it was on tap (Tuesday?) thought it was drinking better.

Interesting that you should mention Nooner 8, I mentioned talk of Nooner 8 failing of in another post last week. I have heard similar comments from people that opened their bottles recently. They said it tasted like the hazelnut flavor had faded compared to the taste of the draft at the initial bottle release and compared to bottles open the first week after the release.

But I have also heard numerous people say that it wa spot on when they had it on draft during TBBW (Tuesday at Cycle and At Peg's on Friday)

That's exactly what we said. Overall, I think nuttiness in beer is finicky from my experience. Falls off faster than most adjuncts.

On Friday, at Cycle, I blended their coconut and maple vanilla and it was mind blowing. Their beer is so good!

I may be mistaken, but I am pretty sure that what was on tap during TBBW is not the same batch that was bottled back in December. They have done this varient numerous times in the past and I am sure we will see it again. And most importantly Riemster is correct Cycle pretty much if not explicitly said drink the Nooner 8 bottles fresh. That being said the Hazelnut DOS variants are outstanding. Even falling off they are still amazingly delicious.

That may be the case! And I assumed or heard the drink fresh statement was infection precaution because of the nutz. Will report back whenever we get around to cracking my friend's last bottle, mine got traded away so I've only had taps.

That sounds sick. I was out of town and didn't really get the fullest rundown of Friday, I didn't hear about maple vanilla. I did hear Tue/Wed blend was better than the sum of its parts and had to experiment for myself during leftovers week... Wed > blend > Tue for me.

i actually would prefer the nooner 8 to fall off a bit. when fresh, it was pure hazlenut, and i actually didn't like it much.

it was phenomenal when i had it on tap.

I mean, Thursday is better than BA Abraxas by a long shot, but BA Abraxas holds much more sway in the trading world. Funny how that works.

enormous statement, and since it's 100% your opinion, it's even funnier how you pass it off like a fact regarding the "trading world," lol

I mean, I've had both beers multiple times, BA Abraxas is my favorite beer, ever, so...

Maybe we should all wear nametags at the next release with our BA usernames.
