Am enjoying mine at Tria. Just gave my name and got the pour. I was expecting more fanfare from the barkeep! :-)

Had a great day at Monk's with OsNJCB and his dad. Ended up having 3.5 glasses of Younger, Elder, Damnation, Consecration, and Supplication. Everything about the event ran very smoothly, and I'm glad to see it looks like they'll be raising a good amount of money for charity.

Who won the lambic? That raffle was the only reason I contemplated going.

I salute Monks. They have proven the cynics wrong. TJ's was my model scenario whereby obsessively following the Twitter and pouncing when the clues gave 70% of the picture I was able to get PtY with otherwise little effort. Pliny the Younger himself would be proud of how TJ's handled it this year. Monks took it up a notch (easier to do when you have 3x the product) and demonstrated that you don't need to stand on line for 3 hours just to get a sip. You can take a 1/2 day off of work and enjoy all of the damn PtY you want if you are willing to donate a bunch of dough to a good cause. Bravo.

Monk's handled this event in the most completely professional way possible, and I couldn't be more glad that I went, despite the fact that PtY is overhyped, overrated, and overpriced, especially this year since they changed up the recipe. Cheers, and thanks to Tom and the Monk's staff.

What evidence do you have that they changed the recipe?

I assumed those snifters were 4 oz based on what we see at Churchkey here in DC. They didn't look like much more than 4 oz. But I stand corrected if not. The other glasses they reverted to when they ran out of snifters were definitely bigger. Slightly loosely run event, but still solid, IMO.

I was also at Monk's today, perfectly run event. I had the Younger, Elder, and Blind Pig. I preferred the Elder to the other two. I know it's hard to compare, but I think last years Younger was better than this year.

Just got home from Monk's. Younger, Elder, and Bling Pig were all still on when we left. I came after dinner (around 8:30) and there was no mad crowd or crazy people--it was like a typical Weekday night at one of the best beer bars in the world

As pricey as a $15 8-9 ounce pour was, it really wasn't much more than people paid at Capone's with the difference being all the sales went to charity. That being said Younger last year was better. This year's version didn't seem to have quite as much life as last years or quite the hoppy character. I would say it was too disappointing but I've had better beers

The pours of PtY at Monk's were over the advertised 6oz...I'd say they were around 9oz. Our bartender got called out on making the pours too big but it didn't matter in the end since everyone got some if they wanted it.

As for a change in the recipe, there was some talk that due to the hop harvest this year, RR may have substituted in different hops than they normally use which caused the flavor difference this year...I really don't know if there's any legitimacy to that because this was my first experience with PtY and I thought it was damn good.

I don't think I'm alone when I say that last year's PtY was one of the greatest beers I've ever tasted. It was no doubt a tough act to follow, however the differences between last year and this year were very distinct. This year's looked like a typical DIPA and tasted like a phenomenal DIPA that holds its alcohol very well. Last years was darker and more syrupy, almost like nothing I'd ever seen in a beer before - every swig was ecstatic. It doesn't necessarily mean that the recipe is different as there are so many other determinants on the final outcome.

What I wonder is whether the hype will lessen as a result of this years batch being less than stellar. Something tells me that by this time next year we'll be talking about the same craziness, regardless.

We get it. I agree it was a little less enjoyable than previous year's, but how many times do you have to post it sucks, is overhyped...?

I guess just the amount of times I posted it so far, aka the one time I said it was overhyped, and the zero times I said it sucks. Trying to get others' thoughts/opinions/facts on why it was different this year is just a topic of conversation / subject of curiosity.

Not to go all levitation on you, but it was at least twice in this thread and also in an email trail.

    Whatever. Doesn't matter.

And @ kecarl - It was still on as of about 11pm last night I believe, so there's a chance it might still be on. For the record, PtE, Supplication, and Consecration all kicked yesterday.
