Ok a little hazy, but over dinner I did a compare between KBS and Sunday Morning Stout. All this KBS "killer" talk made me very curious: <---- Colon.








Overall very comparable. I still would pick KBS over SMS, but for the price and availability I would pick up SMS. KBS killer? Not really, BCBS Killer, Nope. In the same ball park yes.

 

I feel like both are fantastic for their own reasons. KBS this year seems much more mellow and balanced right off the bat, which is great but also a little disappointing IMO. On the other hand, SMS is very coffee and bourbon heavy and is much more of what I'd "expect" from the style. This year's KBS, to me, is "a fantastic beer, a disappointing KBS"

 

I was told last years KBS was not as good as prior years. This year KBS is "better" than last year, but I haven't "had" the correct KBS experience yet. I guess. I love Sunday Morning Stout. But comparing the two, I don't exactly understand, but they are close.

To be fair this is only my 4th "experience" with KBS -- 2013 KBS (bottle) in January 2014, 2014 KBS on tap fresh, 2014 KBS bottle in december, and now this fresh.

 

OHH yea, I remember that. That was a fun one, hell if I remember what you sent. I'm sure it was delicious.

 

Drooling... One day I will have to make a pilgrimage to Pizza Boy.

 

Barleywine was your first too? Mine too That one was fun, and while I certainly couldn't take on another style-themed BIF right now, I wouldn't mind doing that again now that I know the style so much better (and what from that style is available to me... I'm afraid to look back at the pitiful box I must have sent)

2- 16oz cans Carton Boat(session)
1- 22oz Duclaw Brimstone(rye wheat wine)
1-750ml Brooklyn Sorachi Ace(saison)
1- 750ml Flying Fish NJ350(English Strong, just released)

The game has definitely stepped up...

Seems I have been more fortunate than some acquiring KBS this year. If anyone got shut out or needs a couple more just send me a BM. Gotta help the locals out when I can

So as some of you know bifs usually scare me. I love them but I always think to myself damn I will never make a good enough box. So signing up for the horizontalhood and sixtercan semi terrifies me but I am ready for a challenge and it would make me sad to see this die.

When I dead lifted/squated this thing off the ground I was like holy shit what did I get myself into.



40 pounds!!!!

The cans I'm super pumped to try and never had any of these! I had zero luck hunting for regular coffee and had given up.


Second I opened the glass box because the big one slightly intimidates me.



Omg I love these!!! And I'm such a sucker for peanut butter and brittle and what fudge?!?!?! After grandma had a slice she was fine and then intrigued. One of the brittles had a slight tear in it and she tried to throw it away I was like Riri this isn't halloween no one's trying to kill me.



So then after stress eating some brittle came the big box. After unwrapping the first layer my jaw dropped and i was blown away with how amazing these bottles are!



And upon opening the second box i was like wait are these all for me?! Or do I just pick one and box back up?! And had to go back and read the rules.


And then of course the challenge beer which I will be tackling this weekend!




Damn this box was killer @jawas I can't thank you enough and can't wait to start pakcking up!
