1997 Sam Adams Triple Bock. I felt sorry for the pipes.

I muscled through an infected bomber of 09 Abyss (I had help) and half of a Peruvian Morning. So I guess I've only drain poured .5 beers.

I had the '09 Abyss when it was fresh. Tasted fine. Second one was opened when I saw the thread about infection. The sourness faded after a while. Third bottle was a mess. I wouldn't have even shared it with an enemy.

Shit, I'm glad the bottle at the Spring Sour Soiree was much, much better than what you describe.

This worries me, I have a 2011 in the cellar.

See this reflects my Brewdog experiences, the Paradox series have been ok with age (not the beer I'd expect, but not bad) but anything else just seems to have a super limited shelf life. I've even had a few on tap that were hard to choke down.

Strangely enough, I've had two more since this thread. A Cigar City Vuja De (all kinds of weird, chalky stuff going on) and a Lancaster Black. The Lancaster I'll admit was a gamble, it was on the discounted shelf at .99$ so it had to be old, and goodnight was it awful, actually tasted stale with a foul, cloudy looking head. The Cigar City was alright at first sip but quickly developed an odor that made it impossible to drink, and the aftertaste was one of spicy, rotted cherries. Horrible.

I ran into Sender at Ale Jail, he opened one up with one of the guys at another store, they ended up opening another assuming the first was a bad bottle. I think it's this blend is just pretty horrific.

This was one of only a couple beers I've ever drain poured as well. There have only been one or two others in my 7'ish years of good beer drinking, but I don't remember what they were.

I learned, from J.W. Lees, that I don't like peated whiskey barrel aging.

It was god awful. I think I have only done about 3 reviews on this site, and this beer was one of them, which turned out to be the lowest score from all the reviews it has

Haha, mine is the 3rd lowest review! Although, in hindsight, maybe I shouldn't have reviewed this one. I later found out that this is how it's supposed to taste, and many people seem to like it.

Yeah same here, no clue beer should taste like BBQ smoked meat, but hey, different strokes for different folks

I didn't have that experience with LambicX. It was somewhat pedestrian and overpriced for a lambic but nothing that made me want to pour it out.

I mean, you couldn't have spent that much on it so it shouldn't worry you. I just hate smokey beers, even Weyerbacher Fifteen was too smokey for me. But Charkootah Rye was literally like smoke in a bottle.

This. Schlenkerla on a hot day... Most of my drainpours are IPA's that have sat around long enough for the hops to horribly fade.

Good to know. I like Fifteen, it's aged well and the smoke isn't so prominent, so maybe I'll be ok.

If you like smokey beers, you will like it. But if you like stuff where "the smoke isn't so prominent" you will not like it. I hope you do though.
