Really enjoyed Daydreamer, although it was a big strong for a Kolsch. Way more fruit character than its German counterparts. Definitely an American take on the style.

When I'm in the mood for a lighter beer, I usually reach for a pilsner, Munich helles, or hefeweizen. But this thread has inspired to drink more Kolsch!

Next time you find yourself traveling from Belgium to Bavaria, plan in a couple hours for the inevitable stopover in Koeln. Walk to Malzmuehle (or take the S-Bahn to Paeffgen) and sit back while the Koebes bring you glass after glass served straight from the wooden barrel. If you're still unconvinced, so be it...

I was excited to recently learn about the Victory 2015 Variety Pack: “The 2015 Summer Selections case will include Summer Love Ale, Whirlwind Witbier, Kühl Kölsch and Prima Pils."

This Variety Pack will include one of my longtime favorites of Summer Love (my favorite Blonde Ale) and it will have Victory’s Kolsch – first time released in bottles! Woo-Hoo!

    Cheers!

Sierra Nevada is also putting a kolsch in their summer variety pack, so it looks like the style is finally getting its dues.

Come one dude. Now, I've had Kolsch in Cologne on a Summer day and thought "ok, this is nice on a pretty day like today." When when I'm chillin inside (as I usually am when I drink beer) Kolsch just doesn't do it for me. Just doesn't taste good. Meh means "just okay."

That's fine and it is your opinion. Kolsch does taste good, for sure.....And that is more than just my opinion. I love and revere beer and have learned better than to coldly slam something that didn't suit my fancy. I can and do learn from many people everyday! I think meh and lol just ought to go with the dinosaurs, lol. Cheers.

I would love to pick up that Victory variety pack but their distribution to my area is terrible. I'd have better luck finding fresh Glissade.

Kolsch in Munich really sucks, on a hot day, because you cannot find one easily.

I've tried several different kolsch beers, and have always wondered if the ones I tried weren't as good for that style, or if kolsch beers are just mediocre? For the record, the main ones that pop in my mind that I've tried in the past for this style, were Schlafly Kolsch, and Sam Adams Escape Route. I will keep Ballast Point Pale Ale in mind, and maybe I just need to drink a good one like that to change my mind about those being meh? Or lol, maybe one really has to go to Cologne, Germany to find one brewed right? Hope that isn't the case, since I'd like to find a kolsch that changes my mind!

Tom, I have not heard any specific dates for the 2015 release. FWIW, Victory released the 2014 Summer Variety Pack on Memorial Day weekend.

    Cheers!

The German (Cologne) brewed Kolsch beers that I buy are Gaffel, Reissdorf, Fruh and Sunner. Maybe you could find these beers too?

    Cheers!
