Traveling from Pittsburgh to Wappingers Falls, NY (had to Google Maps it myself) in May. Wife wants to stop at the Crayola Experience (for the kids, not some weird fetish). Tried to convince her that Tired Hands is on the way, but she knows how to use Google Maps too. Pizza Boy will be an easy sell, but I'm wondering if anyone has an other suggestions of breweries along the route?

Appreciate it, but these guys may all prove a little too far off route.

I can't find a Tawana (sp?); can you clarify? Did find a North River Hops and Brewing though. Not many ratings, but will give it a shot.

There appears to be a Sloop Brewing as well--similar ratings, but there website leaves something to be desired and there's not much on BA about their beers. It's a little outta the way for us; would prefer an endorsement to put it on our path.

Thanks, but Troegs is like a second home and Yuengling we've been to before.

Also found a Defiant Brewing in Pearl River, which we could make on the way. Ratings look a little healthier than Sloop, as well as their range of styles.

These seem much closer than some of the other recs. Newburgh is directly on your route. I've never been, but I've heard good things.

Also: Selin's Grove is an interesting stop. A bit off your path, though.

EDIT: It's pretty much on your way to Pizza Boy.

If you are stopping in Easton to do the Crayola experience, then you should hit up Weyerbacher while in Easton... Only about a 10-15 minute drive from there...

I would second stopping at Weyerbacher (remember seeing the Crayola signs on our way to Weyerbacher). Looks like tasing room hours have been expanded. From their site (check site for tour times, if interested):
    "Tasting Room Hours
    • Monday through Saturday: 12 pm – 7 pm
    • Sunday: 12 pm – 5 pm"

If you decide to cross over the Hudson River via Route 6 into Peekskill ( you will have your choice of ways to get to Wappinger, which is on the East side of the Hudson River), Peekskill brewery is a must stop, it is the best brewery you will come to along your route, IMHO, the equal of Tired Hands in quality with a different style emphasis that puts it over the top.

Newburgh is a nice brewery in a not so nice part of a not so nice town, I would skip it.

Sloop doesn't have a tasting room, but you can get their beers, and many other beers, at Half time Beverage, which is just north of Wappinger Falls on Rt. 9, and near to North River Brewing.

I recommend skipping North River, though, and ending your day at Mill House Brewpub in Poughkeepsie, where the beer is very good and the food is even better. Extremely easy to get to also if you don't mind going 3 miles further north from Wappinger.

If you are gonna be traveling on a Sunday you can stop at the Beacon Farm Market, where Plan Bee will have a booth set up and you can taste and buy some great NY sourced and made beers. It is sorta on the way, you will either have to take Rt. 9D up from Peekskill, or take Rt. 84 west from Fishkill to get there. Well worth it though.

And last but not least recommendation is to come across the Hudson River West on Mid Hudson Bridge, from Poughkeepsie, come into New Paltz and visit Brewery at Bacchus, you will not be disappointed, and you will be a half mile from an entrance to NY State Thruway to head back south.

I don't know of it, but if it's on the way/near Pizza Boy, I will find another time to seek it out, as we'll be limited on this trip, but I'm often traveling to the middle of the state for work, which always includes a Pizza Boy stop. Thanks.

    Selin's Grove
    Breaker Boys
    Endless Brewing
J&H Beverage (bottle shop in Wilkes-Barre but worth the stop)
    Bullfrog

I have no idea how you are going or where your starting point is but Pizza Boy is seems out of the way from Pittsburgh. If you are going the way Google Maps recommends (22 -> 99 -> 80), then these above should work nicely. Maybe go one way and come home the other?

if you hit pb, the quicker Google maps way from there is only roughly 30 min from nyc. brooklyn / queens has several breweries with long hours. some with food. threes, other half, & transmitter. both lots of other food choices as well in general area. if it's a weekend, bk has smorgasburg too which is really cool and if it's the same spot I went(sunday, few yrs back-location is different on sat...I'm sure still nice), has amazing views on a nice day. can eat your food looking out at the bridges/water with tons of vendor choices/julianas (imo, one of the best pizzas you will find walking distance). any of the deciccos grocers as well. amazing bottle shops. brewster, armonk, or ardsley I've heard.
