The backlash against 3 Floyds has begun and I can dig it. I actually love their brewpub and have had 10+ great experiences there. Awesome food. Always something delicious on tap. Waiting in the To-Go line is a joke and my days of doing that are over but it's always a good experience there. I just hate how they give 0 shits about the Indy market so my support for them is waning.

18th St...never been. I'll go one of these days just to tick them off the list but they're a hard one to get behind with the $20 bombers and $18 6 packs of ipa. I love seeing all of the $23 bottles of Devil's Spear sitting on the shelves around the city. I'd like to think they'll come back down to earth but people are buying their other stuff so they'll be the midwest Bruery with their ridiculous prices, I guess.

Fwiw, I think I have only paid more than $15 at the brewpub for a bottle once (Imperial Blud). I would say the prices are majorly jacked up in Indy.

You're totally right! FFF, even though they're in the brewing business, are very unhappy to serve anyone beer . I get a kick out of all the FFF hatred on here. To the OP, just flip a coin or wait until the day you're heading over there and see what each place has on tap and beers to-go. I've had good experiences at both places. Both brew really good beer (18th St only has 6 tap lines but also serves wine and alcohol, FFF has 20 tap lines but no wine or alcohol) and both have food (18th St has a significant smaller menu however).

I'm not doubting their stuff is much cheaper at the brewery. Just saying down here their bomber stuff is all at least $20. The cheapest one I've seen was their Foreman Coffee for about $15. The Contessa is turding up shelves at $20 a pop for a saison nobody has heard of.

Naw, it's just that gruff metal image that they're trying to display. :grinning:

18th St can't control what their beers are priced at on retail shelves in Indy. That's totally on the store you frequent.

My question is, and please don't get offended if you're from the area, how safe is the area around 18th Street to visit? I've heard some Gary horror stories, but I can only assume it's fine since people talk it up a lot. Any insight or times to avoid would be cool. Thanks guys, and again, no offense meant.

The area around 18th Street is called Miller, or Miller Beach. It is not the blasted wasteland that some of Gary undoubtedly is, but the immediate area is still not up-scale. That said, I think the whole Gary thing, like most post-collapse urban areas, is overblown. I used to drive through downtown Gary at 1 AM (US 12) and I never saw anything that scary. I'll admit, though, that I knew the route, and would never just freewheel it around some parts of Gary. Still not likely for much to happen, but no need to take the risk.

Have the same question everytime I go down, that being said I've parked my car close to the brewpub but really it is no worse than most spots in Chicago...but I will say I've been turned around in Gary and ended up in the "wrong" spots and I've come through clean.

I'm sure this will sound overly paranoid, but my Wisconsin plates won't mark me as an easier target, will they? Again, sorry everyone for the minor thread derailment.

I'd say stop worrying and check it out, there has just been some truly great gems on tap, cherry hunter, vanilla/coffee hunter. cone crusher...they seem to put on at least one stellar tap if not multiple to make it worth the visit. Once I went there and they only had one tap that blew my mind...fuckin bastards...

Again, I understand that but every store in the Indy area sells their bombers at $20+. I've been told it's because of the distributor prices. Doesn't matter to me the reason. Every store has the high prices and that's fine. I'll stick to their stuff on tap and get the same quality bombers at half the price.

Then don't ding the brewery for "$20 bombers and $18 6 packs of ipa" when its out of their control. You seem to care, else you wouldn't have made it a point in your initial post.

To talk about how safe the area is..... I would give it as much concern as any area you aren't familiar with. I grew up in the area. In fact my parents still live right down route 12/20 from the brewery. I've been there late Saturday nights and never felt unsafe being a female there. Maybe it's because i grew up there. Maybe because i know the area. As with any place new, just be aware of your surroundings, don't be a drunken fool and you'll be fine.

Haha. Am I insulting your favorite band or something? I'll ding the brewery because these are the prices I see everywhere. I'm sure Sculpin is cheaper at Ballast Point but it's $16 everywhere outside of there. I don't care what the price is at the brewery when it's 3 hours away. I care what it is locally. Keep defending your favorite brewery, bud.

No. Just pointing out general asshattery when I see it, and I see it in your posts. Carry on with your bad self....

The price issue is at least more legitimate than the Gary is sketchy issue, IMO. Been there a couple of times myself and never felt threatened or anything, great vibe, killer brews. Don't be so white.

Apparently people having an issue with $20 bottles of double ipa from a 1 year old brewery is asshattery according to the kid a few posts above.

But yeah, I won't buy them but obviously there are those that will so the market's there. I'm just not willing to be apart of it. No loss or hard feelings on my end towards 18th Street. Do what works.
