I have purchased a number of them at Whole Foods Santa Barbara. Last time I was there on Wednesday, there were another 3-4 on the shelf.

I heard from a bevmo employee that some of the inventory listed in their computers is off due to people picking cases off the shelf and employees scanning the bar codes on the case of 6 rather than each individual single box. Some people were buying a case for the price of one beer. Apparantly this also happened at a few costcos as well. Terrible beer karma!

That almost happened to me at a costco a while back, but I corrected the error. Worried it happened this batch around with Parabola, cuz the computer was showing 20 in stock (not divisible by 6, but exactly what you'd get if someone bought 4 cases and got charged for 4 bottles), and now they're saying they won't be getting future FW boxed releases.

Yeah, as reported earlier in the thread, I bought a case and was initially rung up for a single bottle. (And as reported above I pointed out the mistake and paid the full price...) The girl ringing me up was new, so there is that factor...but I was still surprised that the sku on the outside of the box was for a single bottle. Seems like its just asking for trouble. Is that normal in beer? I worked in olive oil for the last year or so (seriously, not a trading joke) and we have different skus on the cases and on the bottles themselves.

Bevmo is going to stop carrying a beer because they failed to adequately train their employees? That seems like the dumbest reason ever to stop carrying a product that flies off shelves.

Because training all your employees for a product that comes out about 4 times a year and only generates $100-500 of revenue each time per store is a waste. FW should stop putting single bottle bar codes on their cases.

Come on, if you scan a relatively large box and it rings up at 15.99, as a competent person who works in a beverage store you should know that there is a problem. I used the word "training", but it should hardly be considered that as it should be pretty obvious from the get-go.

You mean like a 12 pack of Sam Adams? Or a 12 pack of damn near any other beer that they're going to ring up on a regular basis?

Unless they know what's inside that case of Parabola and/or that it's a special release, there's little reason to suspect the price is wrong.

Back in the day, around 1975 or 76 when there was a electronic store called Best (not Best Buy) in Westminster, I bought a record player (remember them? still got one I use often). It rang up at $40. Suppose to be $140. I believe ti was the old style cash registers back in those days.

You know you've been browsing beeradvocate too much when you expect any given single bottle to cost $15.99.

But even cheap bombers cost $5-10. Probably closer to $10 for most of them.

Yeah I don't think people really know what certain beers are supposed to cost unless they know the product or are trained. I was at a liquor store once that had empty six pack carriers you could fill with shelf beers from their fridge and they would knock 10% off. I filled it with russian River sours when the 375s first came out and the clerk scanned the bar code on the side and only wanted to charge me 7.99 for 6. I could tell that dude really needed to keep his job and I didn't want him to get in trouble for not knowing better.

Chiming into to just say that I remember Best in Westminister. I bought my GI Joes there.

Also, found some Parabola on the shelf for retail this weekend in Westwood. PM me if you need a location (may be out of date)

I also picked up a case and was charged for a single. I took the case and receipt to the beer buyer at my local BevMo and showed her. She was happy I pointed this out and I think beer karma will hook me up with future limited releases. Well ok she told me she would make sure I had access to the limited releases from now on since I was an honest beer geek as she put it.
