    hi all,

I'm heading to Key West next week and am wondering if anyone might have some beer/bar tips or recs for when I'm down there. I've been before, so I'm not a complete novice, but I imagine there's plenty I haven't discovered.

    Here's what I know:

    1) Krawls off Duvall and the Porch have good craft selections and are fun places to hang out.
    2) World of Beers may have a good selection but it looked like douche city.
    3) Drink anything by Cigar City I can find

Any other bars, liquor stores, or breweries I should keep an eye out for? My tastes run towards IPAs, pilsners, sours, and stouts. I'm not much of a fan funk/brett beers, reds, or yeasty belgian styles but otherwise I'll pretty much try anything.

    Thanks much!

    Edit to add:

    4) I also know about Kelly's and never found their beer all that interesting, though it was certainly serviceable for the price
    5) Just found another thread I missed that recommended Cork and Stogie which I will definitely check out

I second the Porch, I went there just about everyday I was in Key West. I also saw on FB they opened a new brewery in Key West just a few weeks ago, FL Keys Brewing Co

The Walgreens on Duval had a pretty decent selection of craft beer, definitely had some Cigar City cans.

That's kind of hilarious actually  Never in a million years would have guessed that one. Thanks!

Thanks for the tip on Firefly! I was already intrigued by the restaurant (especially for it being a place to get brunch without the crazy Blue Heaven lines) but had no idea they had good beer. The beer list appear to be a bit buried on the website.

Florida Keys Brewing is in Islamorada. Waterfront Brewery is looking at opening soon in Key West.

See mine and others recommendations in the thread linked above. The chicken sandwich at Firefly is awesome. Very laid back and rarely a wait for lunch. Paseo at Eaton and Grinnell is another favorite lunch spot of mine. Not a beer place but really good food. The Hen and Hound (formerly Seadog Tavern) is another supposedly good beery spot I forgot to mention. I haven't had a chance to get by there yet but have heard good things, especially about their wings.

As I mentioned in the other post, I'm the Head Brewer at The Waterfront Brewery. If you want to send me a PM and we can make the schedules work I'd be happy to give you a quick tour of the place, it's nice to get some outside opinions every once in a while. We probably won't be open till late May early June due to permitting issues over the course of the project.

    Cheers!

    Justin

I've lived in Florida now for 25 years and haven't had enough desire to see Key West to make the trip. The fact y'all are opening -- and I could enjoy some more Key Lime WitNess -- may be what tips the scale to get down there!

Just wanted to say a quick thanks to the people who put forward recs in this and the other thread. All of them exceeded expectations! In particular:

    1) That chicken sandwhich at Firefly was indeed spectacular.

    2) Cork and Stogie was a total hoot! We got to meet and drink with the owners and a few regulars a bit and each and every one was delightful. They seem to have a very tight knit, but welcoming, crowd there. If I lived in Key West this would absolutely be my home base. Great beers, great people, and a truly quirky atmosphere.

    3) Extra thanks to @Shortbus901 for showing me around his fairly astonishing new brewery. If things turn out as planned this stands to be a tropical beer mecca of sorts. The place is enormous and delivers on the promise of being "Waterfront" with a spectacular view. Sampled a few of his beers which were all delicious (especially the Key Lime and the Session IPA) and he said they plan to offer other local stuff as well, so it should be a one-stop-shop for on premise and cream of the crop regional sampling. I'll leave additional details for him to provide as his opening draws near, but it seemed like this could really be something special. Best wishes getting everything finalized Justin. Next year's visit can't come soon enough!
