Unless I'm crazy or have been hoodwinked, I remember having Premiere multiple times on draft years ago.

A friend had stashed a big big bottle of the Blue from the mid 80's and popped it year before last at a Christmas party, OMG, was it awesome. Don't know about the quality dropping off over the years, but I usually get the Blue when it is on available on draft and thoroughly enjoy it. Other belgian beers of a similar type usually get my money for the bottles instead of Chimay however.

The cost of Belgian and most German beers here are too expensive. Granted I lived in Europe so my view is different than most. Having said that I will pay good money for a Chimay Blue, Abt 12 etc. What I do have a hard time paying for is a German import, especially a hefe. By the time a Paulaner, Weihenstephaner etc make the trip over here I can buy a good US version for less money. Give me a fresh Yuengling Summer Wheat over a 10 month old Schneider Tap 7.

Sixpoint The Crisp, Victory Prima Pils, Victory Helles etc. Great US examples available locally for less money at a better price.

Always love Chimay. .. Off the bleu blanc or Rouge  I dig their tripel.. the white...

Also I love buying up the mix packs when on sale with the glassware... it is a total steal.

Doree is actually on the shelf but has different packaging I noticed than the Euro version.. in my neck of the woods...

I also absolutely loved the Cinq Centes (spelling?) they put out sometime ago.

Well, I have some good news for you! Yuengling Summer Wheat is out!! Yesterday I bought a 6-pack for $6.99 and it is tasty as ever!!

I would also encourage you to add Troegs Sunshine Pils to your list; that beer is an April release as well. Last year I bought a 12-pack of cans for about 18-19 bucks.

    Cheers!

P.S. "available locally for less money at a better price." Is this from the department of redundancy department!?!

The Troegs Sunshine Pils was left out by me. Great beer.

I have never lived in a Yuengling area before so BA's here don't get the wrong idea that I am pimping them. The Summer Wheat is a legit craft beer. If you like a German style Hefe, try it. The price and quality of it will make you a fan.

I posted the below about a week ago:

"Yuengling is a regional brewery that is now (2014) considered to be a craft brewery via the updated definition by the Brewers Association.

The Summer Wheat they released last year (summer seasonal) is a legit craft beer; a tasty Hefeweizen beer.

Most people know of Yuengling because of their Traditional Lager. It is an AAL beer which I find to be more palatable then BMC AAL beers.

Another AAL they make is Lord Chesterfield Ale (don’t let the term “Ale” fool you; this beer is an AAL). For the AAL beer style, Lord Chesterfield is very, very good.

They also make a Pennsylvania Porter (a Porter brewed with lager yeast) called Yuengling Porter. That beer is by no means my favorite Porter but I do enjoy drinking it from time to time.

Another nice drinkable beer they make is their Oktoberfest. It may not be a ‘legit’ Oktoberfest beer by many people’s standards but it is certainly an enjoyable beer to drink for my palate.

There are other brands in their portfolio."

    Cheers!

i like chimay bleue, the other two not so much. i prefer rochefort and orval when it comes to trappists.a 4 pack of orval is more often than not in my cellar.........

as for price, yeah, buying them in belgium or luxemburg i never found chimay to be overly expensive. for the price in the us, i think i would pass........

Supermarket beer is a pretty bad description. Its a world class Trappist Ale…That thank the lord is widely available! I love it!

Chimay is a major stand-by for me. Love the dubbel, the tripel and the strong dark/quad ... in fact, I'm overdue for getting some.

It's not cheap, but it's not significantly more expensive than most craft beer, as far as I can tell. And as to the quality? IMO:

Premiere is the absolute standard bearer for Dubbels world-wide.
    Grande Reserve is fantastic.
    Tripel is very good.

Supermarket beer is a very good description. Some beers are sold in markets, others are not. That is the way they are described overseas. Thanks though.

It's a solid, well-crafted Belgian, but not one I really seek out too often.

Chimay Grande Rèserve used to be one of my favorite beers, but Belgians just don't do it for me anymore. That being said, I just opened a Le Freak, and no matter what any of my friends tell me, it sure tastes like a Belgian to me, albeit a damn fine one.
