As a territory we do not have much to say involving the civil war, although there we did host the westernmost battle fought during the conflict. However my darling southern belles I do have relatives who fought for the Union and therefore that is where my allegiances lie.

    Your a stinking Jonny Reb:

The territory was officially declared on August 1, 1861, following the Confederate victory at the Battle of Mesilla. Confederate hold in the area was soon broken, however, after theBattle of Glorieta Pass, the defining battle of the New Mexico Campaign. In July 1862, the government of the Confederate Territory of Arizona relocated to El Paso, Texas, then withdrew with the approach of Union troops to eastern Texas where it remained for the duration of the war. The territory continued to be represented in the Confederate Congress and Confederate troops continued to fight under the Arizona banner until the war's end.

As a fellow denizen of the American West, I see your point, however I must inform you that the beautiful state of CO (to which we see an increasing number of Californian transplants each year) has declared with our southern brethren.

As it turns out, this is somewhat ironic. My town (Colorado Springs) has many many links to one General William Jackson Palmer (hell, we have a big ole statue of him downtown), who fought for the Union Army. Nevertheless, I'm not one to let a little bit of ancient history and hero worship get in the way of good ole southern tent (porch?) revival.

Us in the west have the best of both worlds, we can participate in the porch upheaval, but our relatively neutral and "out of sight, out of mind" location increases our chances of escaping the fray, and return fire, unscathed.

I leave you with this most epic and important piece of wisdom from my childhood:

    War. War never changes.

The Romans waged war to gather slaves and wealth. Spain built an empire from its lust for gold and territory. ****** shaped a battered Germany into an economic superpower.

    But war never changes.

In the 21st century, war was still waged over the resources that could be acquired. Only this time, the spoils of war were also its weapons: Hops and Adjuncts. For these resources, Florida would invade Maryland, the South would annex Iowa, and the Colonies would dissolve into quarreling, bickering nation-states, bent on controlling the last remaining resources on Earth.

In 2077, the storm of North-South war had come again. In two brief hours, most of the thread was reduced to cinders. And from the ashes of porch devastation, a new civilization would struggle to arise.

A few were able to reach the relative safety of the large American West. Your family was part of that group that entered Colorado. Imprisoned safely behind the large Front Range, near a mountain of stone, a generation has lived without knowledge of the outside world.

Life in the West is about to change.

    Oh yeah... #TSSRA?

The spring of 1862 was when the Confederate army left Arizona after unsuccessfully trying to claim it. The government of the "Arizona Confederacy" which was nothing more than southern carpetbaggers left along with it. So it wasn't the good people of this fine land(outside of Tucson, which is still to this day part of Mexico as far as I'm concerned) who were supported the Confederacy. In fact the First Battalion of Arizona was a Union operation that fought Apaches and protected the New Mexican border that President Lincoln established for the true Arizona Territory a year later. The following was not copied from Wikipedia but "done learned from fancy books and such" as you southern folks like to say.

Another fun fact is my family owns a farm in Illinois that is still operated to this day from the days of the civil war.

After seeing what was going on yesterday, I decided to avoid BA on my computer until this morning to make sure I can catch up... that said...

    1) It's really difficult to follow this thread now with all of these avatar changes
    2) I'm practically dying of laughter
    3) Obviously the south has nothing on the north

*** DIVERSION FROM CURRENT TOPIC ALERT ***

I was just curious -- we still have 2 or 3 boxes left to go this round, correct? @Kramerbarthomer, I assume you're on top of what's left? Once the round is done and we KNOW all the pairings, I can update the history file.

Although it wasn't meant as an assault on the south due to the box being sent before all of this started. @Corriecrafts was hit with a small amount of fire yesterday for winning my LIF. I guess we can consider this a preemptive strike.

I think California is the most Yankee of them all. When my wife drug me kicking and screaming to Liberalville, CA, and I ordered a tea to drink for dinner, they send me a warm beverage in a dainty little cup. It doesn't get any more Yankee than that folks.

My LIF box to @xICooRsYIx is scheduled to land on Saturday. Although not originally intended as a shots fired in the great war, I think at this point you can safely pretend I put #TSSRA and a picture of Hatch Chiles and Sweet Tea inside.

Real talk: how do northerners live without sawmill gravy in their lives?
