Well, that's more hopeful then. I just have a hard time imagining dill/caraway flavored Dark Lord being tasty.

Still wouldn't gamble $50 on it.

Mikkeller just posted a Akvavit BA Dark Lord bottle for an event at Warpigs on Instagram. Looks like the right colored label too.

Warpigs (owned by Mikkeller/Nick Floyd) is having it's grand opening tomorrow, so I'm assuming today is some sort of VIP opening, with Floyd on hand. So it's either legit, some small test batch, or Nick himself is trolling us.

I'd gamble $50 on it, if I were E group and that was all that's left. Thankfully I wont find myself in that situation.

Random question - what's the longest people have gone without winning a scratch off? I've gone 3 years in a row without winning one so far. I'm not complaining about not winning one, just curious.

I figure the odds are about 25%. based both on bottle count vs tickets and on the people I knew last year that won, which I think was 6/24. So hopefully it's your year.

My fiance and I both had winning tickets our first year and I gave one away...the year after that we both struck out. Finally got group A tickets so maybe the beer karma gods saw that random act of kindness a few years back .

My group of 4's luck since they've been doing scratch offs has been as follows:

    2011 - 1 for 4
    2012 - 2 for 4
    2013 - struck out
2014 - struck out as well

Here's to hoping luck is in our favor this year.

So question about the scratch off tickets. I'm going with a group of six friends, all in different groups (I'm B, the others I believe are C and D).

If someone from the D group gets a scratch off and is a winner, could I conceivably swap tickets with them and bring their winner to the front to claim a better bottle earlier in the event? Or does the scratch off basically say "you are in group D and will redeem this with group D?"

You get your scratch off the moment you walk into the brewery to buy your bottles.

Don't get your scratch off until you're in the brewery of the bottle line

Last year people were coming out and selling their golden ticket unscratched from anywhere from $20-40 that I saw. So if you don't give a poop about the BA version, you could make a couple bucks.

Good to know. Thanks for the heads up.

How the heck does this work? They punch your ticket when you buy your bottles. I don't think they'd accept an already punched ticket.

They hand you a scratch off ticket. When you get your regular bottles they punch your ticket. The BA table is a separate table that you go to. You don't have to go to that table and the people who sell you the regular DL don't make you scratch it off.

Side note, I really hope I'm in line with someone who flips the F out for not winning a BA version. Saw it last year and it made my day.

Regular and BA sold at separate tables, One hole punched for regular, one for the variant.

I suppose that'd work. That's shady as hell though. No thanks.

Registers pretty low on the shady scale when it comes to stuff people do with very rare beer.

    Very true.

I really wouldn't consider it shady. I mean if you don't want to spend $50 on a beer whether you win or not and someone else wants an extra chance of winning, then it's a win:win. I personally wouldn't do it because it's fun to do the scratch off and see if you 'win' or not.

Eh, not shady at all. $20-40 premium is still cheaper than CL prices.

Now, refilling whalez bottles with shelf beer, recapping them, and trading them away? That's shady.
