Bought the growler last Thursday, opened it Monday night, and just poured myself a glass today to compare. It's lost a little carbonation, but oh my is this a fantastic beer. I would put it somewhere between Dragon's Milk and BCBS, no fooling or hyperbole. It is super complex, but a great balance as well. I hope they wrote this one down.

I bought a growler last Tuesday and took it home and wax-dipped it. I'm hoping it'll hold-up well after going through all of that.

For me, wasn't worth the $18 paid

As of last night, growler fills were still available of TR Indignant. Picked one up, and while it was very good, hard to swallow the $41 I paid.

I got one last Sunday (thanks for the tip, Moe!) and just opened it tonight. It's lost a tiny bit of carbonation but is VERY delicious. I agree that it's nearly up to BCBS quality. My novice-level understanding of TR's whiskey is that it's mostly distilled at a huge food processor in Noblesville, IN (possibly not from a "Prohibition-era recipe") and then shipped to Iowa to barrel-age. Kind of gimmicky, but their barrels have done great things to this beer. No second thoughts about the $41 price tag.

...technically $36 price tag, which is $0.56/oz. That beats the heck out of the $1/oz. that BCBS and other "big" beers like DIPA's have been going for.

Yes, but one must consider the source in these cases. I'd rather not purchase beer from a pompous, alcoholic douche bag. But that's just me.

Well, the bartender wasn't a pompous, alcoholic d-bag. She was kind of cute, actually.

Love the Bourbon Stout tappings in the summer! Haymarket is tapping Indignant again today. This one is aged 7 months in Woodford Reserve Bourbon barrels.

    Growler fill here I come!

If I were you, I'd be in front of the bartender watching them when they fill it. They are notorius for sucking at filling growlers. Make sure they cap it on foam and fill it from the bottom. For a $40+ growler, it ought to be done right.

can you explain from the bottom?

Bottom-filled meaning they attach a hose to the tap spout. The hose goes down to the bottom of the growler and fills it from the bottom. This creates less foam and oxygenation as opposed to just tipping the growler at a bit of an angle and filling it straight from the tap.

EDIT: and for what it's worth, counter-pressure filled > bottom-filled > straight off the tap. A Co2 purge is great when available, and capped on foam is a must.

They wont bottom fill unless you ask, and ask I did. Also had him fill it to the top and cap on the foam. I plan on testing this out by trying to save this growler to share with peeps in the streets on Minneapolis at the end of October. Here's to trying..

Good work. Keep it cold and if you have bottling wax, give the cap a wax dip.

A bottom filled growler wont last much more than 2 weeks in my experiences. You'll be drinking a Kuhnhenns beer in October. (get it, cause it's flat!)

Come find me at Darkness Day and hopefully I can prove you wrong. Oh, and JEGross... the mouth feel on this batch is real nice.

BTW, should anyone like to continue the discussion of Templeton Rye vs. Woodford Reserve barrel treatments, Pete told me he would have both on tap next week! What a great end to the summer!
