No. Alcohol isn't allowed in carry on luggage. You'll have to either ship them or check your bag.

Alcohol is allowed on carry-ons. The problem is the 3oz rule when going through TSA.

The question then is... How many 3oz bottles fit in a 1 quart zip lok baggie?

It's more about purchasing bottles at the airport than trying to get them through TSA. In San Diego, there's a Stone bar that sells bottles.

Right. But the guy was asking about bringing things back from Crooked Stave, not buying something at the airport. If he puts those in his carry on, he won't get through security with them.

Sounds like his question was answered, then.

I'm either chalking up me missing that part on the booze or he edited it after I posted. David likes to make me look like a fool, so the latter wouldn't surprise me!

Lies..all lies! Again I know the TSA guidelines but was curious if dcgunman had something special he was able to do as he works for the airlines. So I was hopeful there was some workaround but sadly it would appear there isn't and I would just need to leave my bottles to fend for themselves.

And c'mon Matt, I rarely make you look like a fool..except for that one time....downtown....with that girl that was actually a guy in drag....that was funny.

No liquids as carry-ons. Sometimes I'll throw in several of those small liquor bottles for mixed drinks with the free coke, 7up, etc. But sometimes those flight attendants can be bitch's when you keep asking for more coke. My last trip to NYC (a couple of weeks ago-which we did not make it) I packed several cans in a box (popcorn) and wrapped each can with bubble wrap and tape. The box was special made by my bro-inlaw who works for box company. It made it to JFK and I didn't. The box was sent back the next day and I was on the road to KRBC & RRBC for a 6 day road trip. Picked up the box from my co-worker and repacked it with more cans and RRBC bottles and sent it off to Brooklyn for the trade. He used the same box and it's still like brand new. I would feel safe boxing up the bottles/cans and using popcorn and bubble wrap each bottle and putting it inside a zip lock bag. I think the box weighed under 15 lbs when I checked it at my ticket counter. I stopped in and talked to TSA agents and they said no problem with alcohol in a box or bag as checked bags. But I would feel safer using a box versus a luggage. Unless that luggage is one of those Samsonite hard case. But still protect it from the inside. Working for a major airline I don't like checking bags in. The baggage system can be harmful to your luggage.

My box was not opened by TSA agents. But I did talked to them and explained what was inside. My original tape I used was not tampered with when I got the box back a week later.

Check the luggage in or box it up and check in as luggage. I feel it's better protection. You can go to FedEx shop and pick up one of their boxes (free) and use that for your beer (protecting the bottles of course) and check that box in at the counter.

On a side note, I've had 2 New Glarus Moon Mans taken from my check-in at O'Hare.

Yeah I've checked luggage with bottles probably 15 times in the last few years and I've never had any problems. Just make sure that nothing is close to the edges and they are separated from each other in the bag.

When I fly Southwest or otherwise am able to check multiple bags for free, I use a 12-bottle styro shipper. That way you don't have to worry too much about TSA repacking properly if they open it, and if there are 12 bottles in it, it seems a little less likely they'd pinch one because it would be kind of obvious.

When I pack bottles in suitcases, I use these bottle protectors. That way it's a lot easier for TSA to reseal them than if you use rubber bands to put bubble wrap around bottles or something like that. (There are cheaper "wine diapers" available on Amazon and elsewhere, but the Travelsmith ones are nicer.)

The Stone bistro is only in one terminal and their bottle prices are pretty jacked-up -- $20 for a Speedway Stout is one price I remember.

man what a bummer! im always worried about my bottles breaking (even though im pretty good at wrapping them i tie them up in a bag first then rubberband my clothes around them) but ive never worried about TSA being lame and taking one!

I have fit over 20 of them in a bag. I don't like paying $7 for something I can buy for $3 at the liquor store.
