Having one of the two bottles of a new beer I picked up from Kroger's "discounted single bottles cart" a week or two ago...

Raven's Roost Baltic Porter from Parkway Brewing. Like other porters I've tried so far, it's near-black (you can tell it's dark brown when pouring and looking around the edges at the bottom of the glass) with tan foam on top. Smell is a bit milder than expected -- there's a bit of roastiness and some of what I can only describe as "dark malty beer smell," sort of drifting into the sweetish raisin-like range at times -- but there's nothing bad about it at all. None of the weird... almost cheesy?... smell I've sometimes (but thankfully not always!) picked up in the other two porters I've tried previously. Taste is also primarily roasty, though it doesn't quite come across as "coffee-like" in this one -- more of a general "roastedness" and very slight chocolate every once and a while. There's also a bit of a raisin-like thing going on, or a "some kind of dried fruit" thing at least -- a semi-sweetness that definitely seemed raisin-like at first but shifted a little over the glass, almost reminding me more of dates or figs toward the end. Whatever it was, it was a nice flavor to have in there along with the roastiness.

Overall, I'm definitely enjoying this one (and am glad I went ahead and grabbed both bottles when I saw them!) I'll have to try more of Parkway's beer in the future -- several are always on the shelves at the very same Kroger I picked this one up from, and I know a friend has mentioned that their "Get Bent Mountain" is the only IPA she's tried that she actually liked.
I am wondering just what the difference between a Baltic porter and a regular porter is, though -- I think I've read that Baltic porters are brewed with different yeast (like a lager) and tend to have higher ABV, but nothing's really jumping out at me as a really obvious difference between the two types of porters. Maybe that raisin/date/fig sort of flavor? Then again, Breckenridge Vanilla Porter came across as "raisiny" to me, too, so I dunno.
