Not at all, hence the "As much as I hate it". I was speaking from a company/distributor point of view. A company never wants to over-saturate a market. Having stock just sit on a shelf is terrible for them. FSW is doing a good job of preventing this in Texas -- at least with their barrel aged stuff.

Deschutes, on the other hand, seems to be sending us more-and-more each year. I'll never be one to complain about being able to pick up 3 bottles of Abyss, BB Anny, etc, I just find the two opposing approaches interesting.

And there are still 4 cases of Abyss on the floor at Specs on Bay Area!

I used to say that Abyss was overrated, now I am starting to appreciate it a bit more. It's blend is certainly more subtle than many other liquor barrel aged beers, but nowadays I'm starting to appreciate the more subtle approach of a blend, and if I want a boilermaker I can always make my own.

Some Black Betty / Melange a Trois and Stone Best By 4.20.15 off the top of my head. Going to grab lunch there in a few, I'll update when I'm back with price on Abyss + extra brews.

meh.... the black betty/trois/enjoy by is all over town... never bothered to try black betty after the melange a trois - I found the beer had a really harsh astringent sour note that didn't sit well with me... maybe others enjoyed it more, but the ~$20ish i spent on the bottle... well let's say it's a tough market to be making a bad first impression in... between that beer and the cardinal pale ale i don't feel the urge to start working my way through their whole portfolio...

Yeah I was just mentioning what I remembered. There's nothing much more than that there at the moment. They do have a ramen bar that's quite delicious.

Don't mention a beer 10 minutes after release, or the beer police will berate you.

I said it late last year/earlier this year and was told I was a fool...Abyss has become a shelf beer.

Not to mention it has a fantastic mouthfeel. Probably the best barrel aged stout MF I've ever had. Still priced way too high at most stores in DFW though.

Check Specs on Hulen in Fort Worth. They still had it as of 2 weeks ago, I think.

Yep, still had Abyss at the bar at WF on Voss. $13.99 was way cheaper than other places. Cheaper than the one I pickedup in CO too. They still had plenty of Enjoy By 4/20 as well.

You know just to prove that I can admit when I'm wrong. I'm done with this beer. Deschutes really needs to revamp their barrel aging program. They probably won't at this point, but still. Abyss is overly hot and charred. So I'm supposed to age it...so all of the bourbon fades and the MF has thinned out? Nah, I'm done paying $18 for this beer.

Ugh this was one of the worst things I tasted in a while. Had some on draft tonight and it was a winey mess. Got nothing but boozy wine. Definitely done with abyss
